Adds two supersized screens; improved viewing angle; fantastic battery life; great new pen-shaped stylus; preinstalled games and software.
A bit bulky and heavy; size makes device less portable; no improvements over DSi's cameras and internal storage; networking hiccups found in DSi remain; text-based games may look slightly blurry; old DSiWare games can't be transferred over to the XL.
"At the end of the day, the DSi XL is exactly the same as the DSi, so unless you're desperate for more touch-screen real estate, or your vision is impaired, we can't recommend a purchase over the original DSi."

I purchased this for my 5 year old's birthday. Initially I thought a DS Lite would do but after getting one, I realized that the screens were too small and would cause strain on his eyes. He already has somewhat poor vision. I bought this at a great price. I balked at the idea of paying $200+ for a game system for a child his age so the discount softened the blow. The system itself is great. The bronze color is very nice. The speakers are pretty good also. My son blasts the volume while playing games and I can hear it in the next room. It feels sturdy in your hand, is a reasonably comfortable size despite some reviews stating that its' too large. The screens are a perfect size, being just a tad larger than a PSP's screen. The added options/games (dual cameras, chat, internet) make this an item that can and will grow with my child. I purchased a warranty from Square Trade but a accidental damage warranty isn't available for this item. I was also able to buy a DSTT card for around $60 with 40 games, providing him near endless hours of play and giving me some extra cash in my pocket. And did I mention these are so awesome that adults would like them too? I think Nintendo is marketing these toward adults anyway with the colors bronze and wine. A minus is that there aren't many accessories for this unit yet. Walmart carries a bundle for around $20 with a case, extra stylus', a couple game cases, earbuds and a car charger. It was a decent priced accessory bundle but the case is way too exact. Somewhat difficult to insert and no extra room for games, or anything. Overall, I would buy one of these again. Especially at the price I paid, just over $150! Thanks eBay!
I like the two over-sized screens; this has great battery life; awesome pen-shaped stylus; and preinstalled games and software. One drawback is that the camera does not take great pictures.
I wanted to get something for my daughter's graduation. This fit the bill, and she's been playing it every day since she got it.
screen graphics are sharp and clear. The only thing that's bad is the pen can't be kept with the unit unless you buy something to carry it all in. so you still endup using the smaller stylus in the unit itself.
Like the pre-installed games - at least its one game you can't lose. Lost my old Brain Age game, so its nice to have the new ones.
Camera is fun to play with. Sister likes playing with it.
All in all, this new larger touch screen allows you to do pretty much anything. Love it.
Wow! This system is amazing! I bought one for my kids and I need to myself one now too! The screen is soo much bigger than the DS lite we had before. This screen makes it more like playing a regular video game than a hand held. I love the camera option, and my kids love the edit photo option so they can do silly projects. The stylus and pen size stylus are cool. I like the ease of writing with the bigger one. I noticed that the system doesn't take gameboy games, but I was willing to trade that option for all of the much cooler things this system can do. This is the best DS yet!! I am sure anyone could appreciate this high tech perfect size handheld. It would be great for home, travel, and anywhere else you could think of. 5 out of 5 for me!
This is a great upgrade from the first Nintendo DS. The picture taking capabilities is wonderful. The factory installed flipnotes and Brain Age games adds an extra appeal. You can chat with other DSis in the area, including the charming pictochat with lets your draw pictures and send them back and forth, changing them as you go. The only downside is its lack of power when it comes to the internet. Its os is Opera, which is not compatible with Adobe Flash, so something as simple as watching a video on youtube is impossible. Overall, this is a gaming system and not a handheld computer, so don't expect the world of it when it comes to the internet.
