I purchased this lens for my Canon 450d (XSi) and wanted a normal focal length prime lens on my crop frame body. There is no other lens with this aperture and focal length for this price that has decent quality.
This works very well in low light and is extremely sharp from f/2.0-8.0. At f/1.4 its a bit dreamy, but you may like that quality and it does well in a pinch.
The only downside is that I had to purchase an adapter (make sure it has an AF confirm chip/programmable). It is soft at f/1.4 and exhibits purple fringing at f/1.4-2.0 (2.0 is negligible). Manual focusing takes some getting used to but is really rather easy once you get the hang of it.
All in all, I'd say that it was worth every penny I paid for it and is a great alternative to the Canon EF 35mm f/1.4 and Samyang 35mm f/1.4.
I'm thrilled with this lens. This lens is a workhorse. It's on my camera 90% of the time. I'm a portrait and wedding photographer and this lens is a must-have. The autofocus is fast, the colors are rich, and the bokeh is gorgeous from f1.4-f2.2. It's pricey but it's worth it.
This is a modern classic in optics for the people. If you think it is expensive ... you are wrong :)
