Fun camera with great quality!

I've had this camera for a year and I love it. I'm a pro photographer and while I love my Nikon D3 and D300, I don't like to lug around a heavy SLR and lens for taking general snap shots or just shooting for fun.

The J1 takes great pictures, has a good white balance control, sharp even at higher ISO, and works well in low lighting. Controls are pretty basic; while there is a manual setting, it's nothing like a DSLR manual and I do find it's manual setting odd. I never use it since this little guy does just fine on auto.

I'd recommend this camera for anyone who just wants to have fun or someone who wants to have better quality in their images without having to learn how an SLR works.

Might I add that while I feel this camera is made well, it is not for the heavy handed. With lens it weight under a pound and one drop might put this little guy out of commission.

Best camera I have ever used

This camera is great I took a trip to europe and have no experience with these type of cameras and was able to pick my settings and get great pictures even at night with no flash this camera will take pictures that look like they were taken at 5pm and it records full hd video and slow motion video which is an amazing feature plus with the detachable lens I was able to wear the camera around my neck under my jacket and lens in my pocket so I was ready to get pictures anywhere I was sightseeing with out having to carry a bag or case around or worrying about someone stealing it definitely worth the money I paid for it highly recommended

Awesome camera! Best small form factor camera out there!

I was looking for a "point & shoot" that wasn't generic like the cheap stuff you can get at Walmart. The DSLRs are obviously the way to go for premium quality photos, but I wanted the portability of a smaller form factor camera without sacrificing ALL of the functionality. The Nikon 1 series does just that. The menus are easy to navigate, the manual is straight forward and easy to understand. It has controls that makes the camera simple to use and automated for those who don't want manual control, but it also has the ability to go a little deeper and adjust aperture, shutter speeds, exposure, and lots of other things to make the camera do what you want. This little guy is packed with features that allow it to deliver quality photos in a palm sized package.

good product for the money

Like the product. it is not the camera that i expected but it works. it does not have auto adjustment for lens i have to do by hand and some times when you take a picture that it moving the quality is poor. It can also be because of the lens that comes with it is not great. If you use a new and bigger lens might work better.

A really awesome camera!

This is my first camera like this. All my former cameras have had automatic flash or zoom lenses, and the idea of a manual zoom lens is something I have been wanting to pursue for a year. I have read the reviews for this camera on several sites, and I am not well-versed in camera features, so I didn't know half of what other users were saying. For me, this camera takes brilliant photos, and I am looking into buying the next largest zoom lens in the future for those further away shots.

Attaching the camera strap was a chore, and took me longer than it took to figure out the camera to attach. But I love this camera, and I cannot wait to use it more in the future!
