Product Information
Stylish and handy, the Nikon D7000 is a 16.2 MP camera that is packed with advanced technologies to deliver stunning quality photographs. This Nikon DSLR camera is powered by an EXPEED 2 image processing engine that enriches images with a rich tonal reproduction, helping you to capture colorful images quickly. The Nikon D7000 has a DX-format CMOS sensor, which delivers rich and detailed images, with minimal grain. This Nikon DSLR camera supports 1080p HD video recording, letting you record your glorious moments in HD quality. The 3-inch Super-Density LCD monitor of this 16.2 MP camera provides a rich viewing experience and offers excellent control, while framing your shots. The Active D-Lighting feature of the Nikon D7000 lets you capture clear photographs, during high contrast situations.

Expanded Product Features
  • DX-format CMOS image sensor and image-processing engine EXPEED 2
The D7000 is equipped with a Nikon DX-format CMOS image sensor and a image-processing engine, EXPEED 2. The camera offers an effective pixel count of 16.2-million pixels and enables capture of high-definition images exhibiting superior image quality with extremely detailed rendering and rich tones with smooth gradations. EXPEED 2 is Nikon's image-processing engine developed with the ideas, know-how and technologies regarding digital images that Nikon has cultivated over the years. EXPEED 2 enables faster image processing, a high level of noise reduction, better color reproduction characteristics, and reduced power consumption.
  • A compact, elegant body that offers both authenticity and flexibility
A magnesium alloy has been adopted for the top and rear covers for increased durability in a size equivalent to that of the D90. All joints on the camera body have also been sealed to ensure a greater level of water and dust resistance.
  • 2,016-pixel RGB metering sensor
With 2,016 pixels, the metering sensor developed for the D7000 offers twice the metering pixels as the previous high-end metering sensor. Prior to shooting, the 2,016-pixel RGB sensor acquires accurate information regarding the scene. That information is then reflected in autofocusing, automatic exposure, i-TTL balanced fill-flash, and auto white balance control for extremely faithful images.
  • 39-point AF system
Adoption of the Multi-CAM4800DX autofocus sensor module enables certain acquisition and tracking of the intended subject with 39 focus points. Nine cross-type sensors at the most frequently used center of the frame allow for certain acquisition of the intended subject. In addition, the number of active focus points can also be limited to 11.
  • Superior subject acquisition and tracking performance
Depending upon the scene or subject, the AF-area mode can be selected from Single-point AF, Dynamic-area AF, 3D-tracking and Auto-area AF. Wide focus areas containing a large number of focus points work together to accurately acquire and track the subject
  • D-movie for recording and editing of Full HD movies
The D7000 is equipped with the D-Movie function that enables recording of high-definition movies exhibiting superior video quality. Autofocusing during movie recording is possible using contrast-detect AF. When the focus mode is set to Full time-servo AF (AF-F) and the AF-area mode to Subject-tracking AF, the camera automatically maintains focus on a subject moving throughout the frame in three dimensions. The D7000 also offers in-camera movie editing functions that allow users to save a single frame as a still JPEG image or delete unnecessary portions from the beginning or end of movie files.

When it comes to mid-to-high-end dSLRs, it takes quite a bit to float my boat these days. I'm not looking for whizzy new features, bold redesigns, or insane burst rates for either myself or the shoppers I advise; to me, the perfect camera just gets out of the way between my eye and the final photograph (and perhaps video). That's a lot more elusive than you'd expect.

My wife & I recently bought a pair of D7000 cameras.
We've found that the external dedicated buttons for functions are far better than having to access menu's to activate them! We especially like being able to select the release modes this way.
I'm fond of the MB-D11 extended battery/grip, and the increased functionality it gives me. I can shoot all day, even flash mode settings, and I don't worry about having to replace the battery.

If that weren't enough, a 2nd SD card slot is built in! Now you're truly free from carrying extra batteries and cards that steal your attention and time from shooting pictures.

Of particular interest to me, is the D7000's ability to allow the user to push the camera to an astounding 6400 (up to 25600 in H2.0 setting), which allows you to shoot in extremely low light settings. Couple this with the ability to capture fast moving action, with up to 1/8000 sec. shutter speed!

Of the thousands of pictures I've taken with the D7000, I've never been disappointed with the results. If there were problems, it's been proven to have been mine, not the D7000.

The 16.2 Megapixel image sensor is large enough to allow very large image files to be captured and cropped to the users satisfaction.

There are quite a few pre-loaded settings the user can call upon in Scene mode. They are literally point and shoot, freeing up the user to concentrate on composition and quality.
If a user feels confident about trying to fly on their own, full manual mode can be used. Then, just set the aperture and the shutter speed to achieve the exposure you desire. Of course, the old standby's, Program, Aperture and Shutter priority modes can be utilized.
I know I've barely scratched the surface of this camera's features and strengths. They're just the one's I've found to be the most beneficial to me.

Of all the features the D7000 offers the user, I find it impossible to pick a single feature I'd call my single favorite.
If I had to pick, it would be the "Scene" mode. This allows users with minimal experience to obtain results seasoned professionals could obtain. That is a significant edge for anyone serious about obtaining the best photo's they can, with minimum effort, or experience. The only thing easier, would be if someone else took the pictures, and you were given credit for it.
The D7000 is a composite of it's parts, and all the parts work extremely well together.

As a serious amateur photographer, I have been using a Nikon D3 but was looking for a smaller, lighter camera for travel that would accept Nikon AIS manual focus lenses (I use them a lot). I am more than happy with the D7000. It takes wonderful photos -- almost as good as the D3 (which remains still better in low-light) and has every feature most of us could ask for. It is a very well-built camera (mine dropped onto the floor the first day I had it and suffered no damage or malfunction at all-- thank goodness!), and designed with all the good ergonomics Nikon is famous for. It's not the cheapest camera, but it's a great value for what you get.

Recently I bought a Nikon D7000 for Nikon’s name and returned it for its bad quality.

Before last Thanksgiving my friend helped me to order a Nikon D7000 with 18-200mm zoom from Costco. We had good price - $1699.99 ($2049.99 - $350 rebate) from Costco.

At first I loved it and I even bought a Nikkor 10-24mm, filters and remote control for it. The camera is less three months old and only took 115 pictures. And I found problem about this D7000.

According to D7000 manual, after a full charge it can take 1050 photoes (Nikon's standard is much higher - 4500 photoes each charge). But In my D7000’s first run it only took 115 photoes after the initial full charge. Battery meter said the battery's age is 0 (means barrery is brand new) and battery meter is only 1% with 115 pictures taken . This is a brand new D7000 with brand new battery, the battery life is only 10% of D7000 manual specified. I do not know this is a camera’s problem or a battery's problem.

In order to solve this problem. I searched manual and could not find a phone number. Late I found a 800 number from web and called, the service person could not advise what I should do - seems he do not know D7000 at all. I posted questions in Nikon's web site but they send me a mail talking about somethings else - seems they even have not read my questions at all. I updated my question several times but no further response.

Today (Feb 13, 2012) is the last day I can return my D7000 in Costco, so I went to Costco. At first I just wanted to exchange the questionable D7000 but they told me I cannot exchange it. Then the service gay said Costco could return me a full price of $2049.99 that makes I can buy a same camera with today's market price. Late Costco guys took their words back (so bad for Costco because they can eat their word just in a few minutes ) and only agree to return me $1699,99- that is not enough to buy another D7000 with lens today. Because today is last day I can return, I asked if Costco can extend the return period for a few days that makes me can call Nikon again. Costco guy did not agree to give me a few more days. So I returned this bad Nikon D7000 with lens immediately. Next I need to returm my Nikkor 10-24mm lens and filter because it is uselee without D7000.

NIkon is a well known company. I do not know why they allow this kind of expensive camera to go to market with problem and do not provide good customer service. Or Nikon do know the Nikon D7000 sold in Costco has quality problem so Nikon gave $350 rebate to lure customers to order. Or Nikon' Thaland factory does not has ISO qualily control system.

By the way this camera and lens are made in Thaland. And I have a 18-105mm lens made in Thaland which coating is very bad. Does Nikon Thaland provides qualfied products?
