Product Information
Nikon D50 is an entry level interchangeable-lens digital SLR camera designed to make it easier than ever to enjoy the thrill of outstanding digital SLR picture quality easily and instantly. Combining the outstanding response of Nikon's patented digital and photographic performance with optical performance available only from renowned Nikkor interchangeable lenses and expanded shooting options only available in a quality digital SLR camera, the Nikon D50 makes exceptional digital SLR photography a reality for everyone. The next evolution of Nikon's scene-optimized Digital Vari-Program modes simplifies picture taking, freeing the photographer to concentrate on capturing the evanescence of special moments. Selecting one of the seven easily distinguishable icons from the handy exposure mode dial optimizes otherwise complex settings and ISO-equivalent sensitivity to produce consistently remarkable results. Newly added is "Child" mode, which makes it easier to take memorable pictures of the little ones complete with ideal vivid color and contrast - ready to print beautifully without the fuss of later adjustments at the computer. Full manual exposure control is also available, allowing more advanced photographers all the creative freedom they desire, while also making it possible for all photographers to expand their enjoyment of photography. The D50 features a 6.1 effective megapixel Nikon DX Format CCD image sensor and a highly advanced image processing engine that team together to create truly faithful image files capable of significant enlargement, yet remain manageable in overall file size, making it easier to take and store more great pictures. These optimized components produce more consistent results, even under shooting conditions that challenge other digital cameras, such as when working with light-colored subjects or long exposure shots. The compact, lightweight design of the D50 makes it easy to carry on any outing, while its body contours and easily accessible controls provide handling efficiency and easy operation. Newly designed on-screen menus present clear and helpful user information in plain language on the D50's large 2.0-inch LCD monitor, and intuitive help dialogs are available for on-the-spot reference to the respective menu selections. The high-capacity rechargeable lithium-ion battery helps extend mobility and convenience by delivering the power to shoot up to 2, 000 images on a single charge. The D50 is an outstanding performer, right down to its diverse playback options, versatile custom settings, USB 2.0 Hi-Speed interface for easy connectivity or direct printing to any PictBridge compatible printer with in-camera page setup, and Nikon's complimentary PictureProject software that will extend anyone's photographic experience with easy image transfers, effective image organization and editing, creative page layout design, plus printing and sharing.

This is very good value for the money that you can get them for today, I have had a D50 from the day it came out. Bought another one only a couple of months ago, as I had a accident with the camera and they do not bounce very well, I broke the standard lens and the camera I was not sure about. However as it turned out the lens was gone, I did a last minute offer of one on ebay really only for the lenses that came with it, and got a great deal. Now my brother took one from me and I as I had such a good experience with the D50 on ebay, I bought a D80 as well, I will not part with my D50, but the D80 will get the use too. Now I have two cameras always ready for THAT shot.

I will not hesitate to recommend the D50, yes it has been superseded by cameras with more pixels but my best photographs are made with the D50, Great Quality clear shots, camera is easy to use, yet has a good few advanced programs for the photographer that wants a wee bit more.

A Great first Digital camera for a serious photographer, do make sure you get some nice lenses with it but most come as a set, 18 - 55 and 55 - 200 (nikon Nikkor lenses came with sets of the D50. However a great set to get is 18-70 and 70-300 nikon nikkor if the budget stretches to it) Investigate as the D 50 can be used with most lenses.

Used Nikon D50 Camera Body

Created: 03/09/11
I'm very pleased with my new toy, my Nikon D50. I had bought 2 digital conventional cameras, but they had limitations that made me lose nice pictures. That is why I decided to move for a professional one, and because I didn't have money to buy a new one (£600, circa) I got a used one (£125).
What I love of my new camera is the capacity to take pictures and adjust the light and shot parameters easily, to focus manually or automatically and the capacity of change the lens if I want it. I just bought the camera body, and I got the lens from an old Nikon film camera. Now I'm planning to buy another lens.
The only thing that I don't like about the Nikon D50 is that it doesn't allow to watch the image to be taken in the screen, it exclusively allows to watch the image by the viewfinder, while most conventional digital cameras allow it. Furthermore, it is heavier than a regular camera, but it's really worth it!!

A good second camera for my telephoto lens. My main camera is a D60. Took some nice piccies with it in Turkey recently. Not as many features as the D60 (continuous shutter etc) but I am pleased that I bought it.
