Great camera..buy it used and get a great deal on it like I did! Very simple and straight forward menus, takes no time to figure out. Cool looking design, lightweight but sturdy feeling. More than adequate for clear everyday picture taking and decent home video recording. Pictures come out super clear and in high resolution. Nice 3-inch LCD screen. I totally recommend this camera if you are trying to get one but don't have the money to burn on one of the higher priced newer models. I am very happy that I bought this camera. I got it used and got a great deal since people don't seem to be really going after it anymore. It still sells new for high prices, but I recommend getting a functional used one if you want a great camera for a great price.
Zooming is comparitively limited, only 3X, so if you are going all out you might look into something like the S6000 or higher. Same also if you want HD video recording quality.
Great little camera. This is my 3rd. Had the first one for 4 years. Dropped it and it broke. Had the second one for 6 months.. lost it while skiing!! But I keep replacing them with the same camera. It is not fancy but it takes great pictures, has a small format, more features than I will ever use. I like the fact that it takes an SD card (generic) as opposed to proprietary memory. The batteries are proprietary but cheap and easy to find on-line aftermarket. There is no downside to these little cameras. I also have a Nikon D90 SLR for "serious" stuff but I use the s52 95% of the time and love it.
The camera size and weight make it very easy to carry and use. Picture quality is excellent, controls and features are very easy to learn. The only draw back is if the camera is carried in a pocket the on/off switch is too easy to activate resulting in a dead battery.
Love these cameras. This reconditioned one is perfect. My old one although it took wonderful pictures, just kept falling apart after dropping the hinge to hold the battery kept dropping off making it difficult to take quality pictures again. A newer style just wasn't the same.
I had this camera before, lost it and replaced it with the same one in red. Nikon has several new versions of the Coolpix now --but I like the compactness of this one and it takes lovely pictures. Just make sure if you are taking people pics as opposed to scenry, you push down the red eye button, as even on automatic, you will need to use it.
