This camera is an AWESOME jewell and a steal for under $200!!!

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

My first experience with this camera was through my cousin who's a professional photographer. He uses this camera exclusively when he's out traipsing around for those "Point and Shoot" moments. I was so impressed with this camera, I've bought 1 for my wife and 1 for me. This camera is insanely easy to use, takes perhaps arguably the best quality JPEG photos for it's intended use, and has MANY and I do mean MANY little extras guaranteed to delight once you dig into the manual or discover them by accident. If you are looking to use Photoshop, then set the settings to RAW and manipulate to your heart's content. There's even a little function to enhance the photo while it's in the camera that is amazing! I intend to use these cameras also to set up and record 720p video, allowing closeups during live music performances (I'm a musician and soundman at heart). This camera has inspired me to dig deeper into photography and so far, my wife and I have taken several hundred photos with hers (I just got mine!)Because this camera has 2 manufacturer model upgrades, the P7100 and now the P7700. Some people are upgrading and letting the P7000 go at a fraction of the original cost on ebay. The only close competition would be the Canon equivalent, but I can't speak on it. Yes, the P7100 has the adjustable view screen, but that wasn't for the money something I needed, and the P7700 has a fully articulating view screen....but no viewfinder, so I've purchased 2 of the P7000 for less that a new P7100. These cameras seem slightly heavy, but not disturbingly so if you are looking for a quality Point and Shoot, don't discount the Nikon. I've found nothing to dislike about this camera. It does exactly what I want it to do....take quality pictures without fiddling around with a bunch of settings I know nothing about. Heck, I can't get the sound I want out of my guitar amp and I've been playing for over 30 years, so I don't need a complicated camera frustrating me. Point and Shoot....got it. If it were possible, I'd post some of the scenic photos I've taken to show what it's capable of, but I don't know how. If you take a chance on this camera, you will NOT be disappointed!

Great Camera if you update the Firmware

Let me start off by saying I am photographer with 7+ years experience, I have used several camera brands but for my digitals I have used Nikon.

I use a Nikon D300 for my main camera and wanted a nice point and shoot to take everywhere I didnt want to carry the 30 pound bag my SLR and lens are in.

My first shots on this camera where a disappointment, I didnt like the focus speed or the write time to memory. I researched the problem and a free download of the latest firmware fixed the issues. Its large enough for my hands and the setup options rival my older Nikon D70.

Its a easy camera to use if you have had some time on a DSLR, you will need the book if your new to serious photography.

My wife and I went on a weekend trip and I took it to shows that your not supposed to bring a big SLR to, and it did great in low light, the image stabilization works well. Street shots at night where also very sharp.

Daytime shooting the colors are very accurate and not grainy until you are past ISO 800 and zoomed in about 50%.

You can go full manual and have complete control over every adjustment, or you can go full auto. It has at least a dozen pre-set scene settings, most of them very nice.

Dont fall for the high pixel count of some point and shoots, most of the time the sensor is so small, the camera has to take several images with it and layer them up to get you your shot, and that always make the image fuzzy. This camera has a large sensor, and a good lens, the images are very sharp, and if you use a small tripod, close to the image quality of say my D70 or D50.

I didnt buy it for the video capability, but when I tried it, it worked OK, a purpose built camcorder is what you should use if you need video.

I would recommend this to anyone who needs the perfect mid camera, not a cheap point and shoot, and not a pro-SLR.

if you are a nikon user and nee sub camera for you DSLR, It is the one i

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

New one is P7100. I just got this one on ebay for under 280
It's "nice P&S camera " in one word.
I have used several P&S cameras Sigma DP1, Sigma DP2,
Fuji X100 and Sony Nex 5.
Picture quality is not excellent like other APS-C sensor size camera but
it's still good image quality with it sensor size.
There are many buttons to control the camera and you can control the camera easily like DSLR (I'm a Canon 1D mk2N and 5D Mk2 user)cameras.
However, because of these buttons, it's bigger than any other PS cameras.

Great camera! Perfect! but slow when in low light

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

I chose this camera after looking at many other makes and models mainly because it has excellent battery life, colors, quality, low light performance and zoom compared to aperture. It has 7.1X at F5.6 which is great for long distance shooting. It also has a hot shoe to blast away light!

The camera is very solid and its really compact! Plus the most important part is the EV dial and virtual horizon which helps me stay in control. Also the shutter speed goes upto 1/4000 which is amazing to a camera this small and affordable.

The Camera's auto focus system was a mess at first, it worked great in auto mode but not in others. Then it seems Center Wide setting solved it.The camera is a bit slow in low light focusing. But everything is perfect. I didn't even need to update the firmware!

I'm so happy with it that I bought TWO!

Good if you dont want a SLR

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

Soon after I received my camera I left on a month long trip to Chile.

I had little time to get used to the camera, but I came back with some superb pictures. In fact, I still have to learn more about some of its functionalities. But it speaks for the little box that you don't have to know everything from the start.

One item I find disappointing was the manual focus. Hard to see on the display if your item is really 'focused' and the zoom is too fast to zero in. Nothing works better than old fashioned turning on the lens.

And it is great to have a viewfinder. But, what happened to digital rather than optical ones ? No parallax, and an exact rendition of your pix, basically a duplicate of your LCD, but visible in back-lit situations ?
