This camera is the one I bought to replace the Nikon L810, this is by far the best camera I have owned. It has all the same features plus of the L810 and a very staple telephoto. I have had the camera for 4 weeks now and taken over 3000 pictures, from wildlife to scenic, I am still finding new features all the time. the cost of $400 was worth it, the flash is one of the features I like for inside shot in very low light, no shadows. I have taken pictures in almost complete dark, no flash, and they come out great. One of the features I like the most is Painting mode, which converts the picture to a painting right after your take it. As for the battery life with this camera I got 400 pictures before it went dead. That is the only problem I have come across with this camera, no notification that battery is low, it just stops. So I bought 2 spare batteries and a charger for $12, end of problem. As for transferring pictures to your computer they give you software with the camera, I tried it, not sure if I would use it, but it turned out to be a very good program, it loads your pictures from camera, you can fix them or not. The pictures are put in My Pictures on your computer, it is similar to Adobe elements. The only thing I haven't done yet is to take a movie with it.
I am a former professional photographer but just take pictures for pleasure now. I used Nikon film cameras in the past and was always pleased with their performance. This digital Nikon is no exception. As a dedicated amateur these days I still look for many of the same qualities in a camera that I did as a professional and the Coolpix P510 did not disappoint me.
It is comfortable to hold and well balanced.
The zoom range is excellent.
The photos are crisp and clean with no noticeable "noise".
The pop-up flash is adequate but I do miss not having a hot shoe to mount an external flash.
Shutter response is quick with no delay so I don't miss shots.
Switching modes is quick, easy and intuitive.
I would have liked a threaded lens for mounting filters, but an after market adapter is available that works, with a couple of minor drawbacks.
Battery life is very good.
Placement of buttons and controls is well thought out and useful.
The large screen is bright and clear and the range of positions it can be placed in was beyond my expectations.
All around I would say this is an excellent camera for the advanced amateur or as a second camera for the professional photographer. One of the best non-DSLRs on the market today in my estimation. Especially for the price. I am a very satisfied owner.
This Camera is Amazing I use this Nikon for everything engine break down pics the quality is super sharp! you can get so close when viewing a single pictures quality it can pull you in to the dust particles on the table. I plan on using it for Disc golf tournaments next spring, with the high speed shutter I've played with with my cat at hi speeds in the living room and it should be a stellar performance for Pro Disc Golf. My fourteen year old daughter has taken some amazing shots of my grandson on a swing. Now to the battery, this battery has a longevity that far exceeds my expectations if I would've waited and studied how long this battery actually lasted I would have never bought a back up for it, but it's something we all do when it come to this and many other types of electronics. But over all I give this battery a 10 ! It will take me some time yet to understand all of what this camera can do from the reference manual but I plan on doing my research on this puppy for $350.00 dolars, I stole this camera at this quality. Thanks for the steal !
this is a great camera very good camera for the photographers not quite ready for the a complex next level changing lenses and other complex issues that come with a hefty price tag & years to fully understand But get the quality and other features only a digital camera can do this is great point and shoot but has options to take the training wheels off as well many great features high definition video , as well as high speed and many other features too numerous to mention 3-d photos 360-degree panoramic shots I have taken Photos of the moon that look like they were shot by n.a.s.a this camera features 42 * optical zoom and can shoot clearly at that distance The Image was better than the cannon version & for the money you cant do better THIS IS A GREAT CAMERA FOR THE ADVANCED BEGINNER and is not hard to use for photography challenged people it will make your pictures come to life and with practice take pictures that are professional level I have many shot from this model That are to be submitted to Nation Geographic and have multitudes of compliments on them from every one who have viewed them
Bought this camera to shoot sporting events. Duathlons, triathlons, crosscountry races, Spartan races, you know, the usual! The camera is a bit weighty, and slightly awkward to use with a gloved hand, but it does take really nice pictures and HD video. Bought a 32GB SD card so storage will never be an issue, but it goes through batteries quickly, especially shooting video. Make sure you have a number of them charged and ready if you're doing long events! Includes digital zoom on top of the already great 42X lens. It includes modes I don't think I'll be able to get to use, so there's somthing for everyone. Researched and bought this because of it's rating for shooting/filming events. Auto settings are spot on for this type of use. Yes, buy one. It's easy to use, and, once you get around the bulk and the odd power button placement (you'll inadvertantly turn it off a few times, trust me) it's 10 out of 10 on what you want. HD pics!
