Nikon L24 is only good as an Underwater Camera (must buy waterproof pouch).

I am a big fan of Nikon products and have never complained about any of their items but this will be my first. I have the L18 which is an 8MP and I've always been happy with it. It responds well, performs and was surely a value for the money.

This L24, don't waste your money on it. It's very slow (takes to much time to focus which means you will very much likely loose that shot you want). I lost quite a bit of shots with this camera. It's definely not a good camera to take pics of Moving objects. If you're subjects don't mind waiting for the camera to focus then okay but it's recuperating time before it will let you take a picture again is far too long. What happens if you don't wait and try to take another pic? Or if you shut this camera off before it's done processing the image? You will get an error that file cannot be found and/or it will FREEZE on you. Never had that happen to me before. Yes, it freezes. I had to take the batteries out to reset this camera and lost a few images. The people at the Camera store told me it was the memory card but I've spoken to many individuals who have used the L22 and this L24 and what I have mentioned above seems to be very common thing. So you have to wait for this camera to power up, do it's focus thing before you can take a pic. I am very disappointed with this camera. I definitely wished that I never bought this camera and thought it would make a nice Point and shoot but all it does is frustrate me. It does take Clear, Sharp pics! It focuses in dark situations very easily and well. those are probably the only good points about this camera. I took this camera on a trip and it was very frustrating to use. The very first camera ever that I do not like. I am still searching for another point and shoot.

The L18 is definetely better than this L24. It's a shame that this product is on sale in stores and here as well.

My recommendation, search for another Nikon Product. When I find one, I will add this information in this review.

UPDATE: I used this camera strictly as an underwater camera (I purchased an underwater pouch for this item for under $30) and it did very very well. I was going to give this away but thought I'd give it one last try. I got some amazing images in the water and underwater. I kept it and will be used only for that purpose. Other than that, it's still very slow in between waiting for the camera to process the image until it's ready to be used again. I've got a few friends who have this camera as well and that was their biggest complaint, too.

Awesome little camera!! I thought I was again choosing between getting a video camera, and a photo camera as I needed the latter, but to my great joy this one does it all!! Videos WITH SOUND! Easy adjustments for zoom, and even better AFTER you take a picture you can edit/crop right on the camera prior to downloading to my computer. So far have found nothing I don't like about it. I've priced it in Walmart and other stores and they seem to run $150-190... so the $40 I paid on Ebay is a great deal. It was a "Nikon refurbished" camera but works 100%. can't recommend it enough

It went smoothly and glad i bought . I haven't tried to download the pictures so I not sure how they will come out; the picture on the screen looks very clear Hope the pictures will too. I was hoping it would take an action picture clearer and quicker and faster reaction time between each picture ,but i don't regreat, i have alot more options with this camera than from a different camera that costs sometimes more or less for value. Im excited to use .I have a couple of people that might buy one becuase they like mine better ,will recommend. I don't feel Im doing a very good review because I havent really haven't use it to much but I think it will do the trick or maybe I can upgrade at a later date,I will look up this site again,thanks for your patience.

Very clear pictures. Easy to use. Light weight. Step up from my last Nikon Cool Pix. Attractive point and shoot digital camera.
