This camera is one of the better cameras that I've owned. I find it versitle and easy to use. I used it at my daughters volleyball game and put it in the "continuous shoot" mode. I was able to get some great clear pics in a quick paced setting. I'm still exploring the different settings and capabilities but overall for the price...very nice purchase.
The Nikon L120 seems to be a decent camera for it's price range. It has a firm and solid grip, unlike the small point and shoots that always seem to slip out of my hands. It has the look and feel of a small SLR even though, technically, it isn't an SLR.
There are dozens of pre-set settings to select for all types of photo environments, but only the ISO setting and white balance setting have manual controls. Everything else, including focus, is automatic only. This limits creative control of your image. Of course, if you're a point and shoot photographer, this camera averages out the exposure and focus well enough to get most shots well.
The main feature is the 21x zoom lens. Nikon cut some corners here, because this lens has a high amount of geometric distortion at the wide angle setting (vertical objects like doorways appear slanted). The image looses sharpness in the four corners at most lens zoom settings, and there is visible chromatic abberation (color fringes around objects in the edges of the frame). In fact, when you look closely, the image never has that crisp sharpness normally associated with a 14 megapixel cemera. My older Nikon D50 was only 6 megapixels, but it's better lens yielded super crisp images. Again, the L120 is only a 250 dollar camera.
The image is average with shots taken indoors without flash. Light sensitivity is fairly good, but at the cost of some graininess.
Colors are highly saturated, sometimes a little too much. Most people like vibrant color, so it may not be an issue.
Video quality at the highest setting of 720 is only so-so. There is no 1080 mode. Videos are more grainy than they should be, with more digital artifacts and less sharpness than a FLIP video pocket camera. In 720 video mode, the FLIP is still king. The stereo audio quality is pretty good, but sometimes it picks up the noises of the camera's internal mechanisms. There's no external mike input or headphone jack.
An HDMI port allows you to view your stills and videos on any HDMI equipped HD TV.
The camera uses 4 standard AA cells and comes without a charger. That means you'll need to invest in a charger and rechargeable nickel metal hydride batteries, or lots of alkalines. While common alkaline AA cells are convenient to find at any store in a pinch, their expenses add up. Replacing four batteries in the field while trying to get the polarities right and not drop the camera can also be a challenge.
For the average photographer, this is a lot of camera for the money, and it certainly looks and feels impressive for 250 dollars. But an avid photographer is probably not going to be satisfied with the image quality or the lack of complete manual control.
I bought the camera for my mother. Thinking that is very user friendly, hve simple and easy function with great picture quality and high zoom lens. It got as expected. It is plus point that it looks like SLR;).
I like the high resolution in this camera. My mother is very happy to find the great quality of pictures. The big screen gives her clear view of the picture and doesn't gives stress in her eye.
The separate bottom for flash helps her to control its function very easily. It is good enough for non professional camera person. The camera have the buttons for delete which allows her to use this function very easily more over the three options to delete all files, selected files and the present files allows her to use it as per her need. The high zooming is the great feature in this camera which is another thing my mother liked the most in this camera. Different other function such as motion, indoor and other functions allows for more way to take the pictures as per her need. Although it took me to explain about it 1-2 times to use those function, the main thing is that she knows and loved these functions in her camera. Talking about the look of the camera she loves carrying it with the comfortable stripe of the camera which came along the pack. She is impressed with the package deal with which the memory card and camera bag came along it. She didn't have to pay extra money to get those accessories. The lens clearer was the things she never saw or used before. She loves taking photos a lot. Even when she asks others to take her picture all she have to ask is to click the button. It is very user friendly and I found it very user friendly and easy to use for the beginners to learn photography.
Comparing to her previous camera which she had canon powershot. she found this much better. Because it was giving her hard to to replace the battery. It would cost really expensive for her to do so. But in this camera as the regular AA battery is used all she has to do is get 2 pairs of rechargeable battery and use it. She do not have to be precise about the name of the camera and its model to find the battery and she can get it in any simple stores. Also the weight of camera can not be neglected. She used to use my camera which is SLR and found it to be very heavy and she was really excited to tell other friends of her that the camera is light and very portable at the same time.
I bought this camera for my mother on her birthday. She was asking for me to look for a good camera for her and told me very specific to be either canon or nikon because those are the very popular camera brands which he has heard from her time. I looked for canon as I have one from canon I was not able to find any in affordable rate with the very professional look and the high intensity of zoom. When I googled for the camera which has the required functions as mentioned by mother I found this camera. She was asking for SLR camera, but i knew that it would be hard for her to understand and use the SLR camera so I was trying to find camera which has very simple functions which would not take too much effort to understand and use the camera. Plus point for me is this camera was the trusted brand product for me. I didnt have to put too much effort to explain the functions of the camera to my mother, or else it would have taken for ever for me to make her understand, and above all it was within my budget. I cant miss to say I loved the color to present something different.
Perfect for entry level and great price.
Pictures are superb quality and video is in 720p.
I use it for filming small projects and taking pictures.
A 57 inch tripod would be perfect, I am 6 feet tall ( I have Polaroid $24.99).
I use a Sandisk 8gb class 10 ($15.00) and takes pictures very fast and reads them into camera very quickly.
I can honestly say I have nothing bad to say about this product. I paid $220 brand new with one year warranty, try and stay around that price.
Focus moves rather quickly, however there are two way to use the focus button. I prefer using the one in the lens, I feel I have better control. For beginners, learn how to handle a camera properly and the focus on the lens is going to be easy for you.
Is not bulky and very light.
Flash is a pop up and works great.
ISO is very good for an entry level camera.
The zoom is amazing but I would upgrade to a bigger lens, maybe 41x with wide angle and UV filters.
Well worth the money spent so far.
Excellent Camera - size and weight are great - there are so many different environment settings (night, portrait, fireworks, inside/flourscent etc) there is no way you can take a bad photo with this camera. Video is great - not High Def - but nice and clear. Anti-motion stabilizer is nice when shooting video. Flash is easy to control and zoom is amazing... one of the best I found and still take nice clear photos. I'd buy again in a heartbeat!
I am a professional photographer and purchased this as a beginner - high end camera for my teenage daughter. It is perfect, for capturing sporting events, kids, and even our dog that never sits still... No lag in capturing action.
Very nice quality for the price!
