High, straight and forgiving irons
Created: 10/09/10
I am a 64 year old, very experienced golfer with a fading game and a 15 handicap on the rise. I have always liked the more traditional, thin topline, "clean" looking irons, but have had to face the fact that I can't hit the classic design clubs anymore. Hence, I have been spent the last 7 or 8 years searching for and buying clubs that will compensate for my diminishing ability. I may have found a major part of my solution with the Nike Machspeed irons with the UST Mamiya graphite R shafts.
These are definitely "game improvement" clubs, but at address they have a compact "muscular" look that is more pleasing and confidence inspiring to my eye than other GI irons (like the Mizuno MX 1000) that sport a big, well-reinforced, "can't miss the ball" look. They are not as "clean" looking as say the Taylor Made R9s, but they look to me like they will concentrate more muscle behind the ball without looking clunky. Others may not care for the look of these clubs.
Ball flight is definitely high and straight, perhaps a little too high for my particular swing, but probably just what the doctor ordered for for guys who have trouble getting the ball up. Along those lines, these irons are definitely forgiving, yielding surprisingly adequate results even when one badly misses the sweet spot. I find it hard to intentionally move the ball left or right very much, but it is far more important to me that these clubs do a fine job of compensating for my mistakes.
Due to the very high ball flight that I get, distance on my good shots is only average for me, but I do get much better distance on my really mediocre shots. Also, given the state of my game, the fact that these irons keep the ball straighter on imperfect hits does mean that on average, I am longer with these irons.
These irons do not provide you with that wonderful "sweet" feel when you hit it flush, but they tell you adequately when you haven't struck it well. The strength of the clubs is the surprising results even when feedback from the club tells you did not hit the shot well.
These are not perfect irons for me, but I would give them a 4+ rating.

HEAVY METAL. Pretty but ??????

I found the SQ Machspeed irons to heavy,to much metal, thus lost yardage and control, granted Im 64,and these clubs might do well for someone younger and stronger, they look great,,but my score didnt care,I resold them.not that I wanted to. I found the grips to be kinda cheapish,,not like the victory irons grip,I dont get why there are soo many companies all hyped up about the MOI thick bottom and top line clubs,I hit my TM firsole bubble shafts 20 yds farther,so next I am trying a Cleveland gold CG iron set,,A guy has to feel comfortable at address and I guess I am used to a thinner club.Nike has come a long way and I enjoy the 20/15 green putter and the dynmo (round head)stiff shaft driver.I do think the Victory irons would have been a good choice Too..READING THE REVIEWS HOWEVER POINTS TO LIKING THE SQ,s VERY MUCH,its a matter of what fits..thankyou for reading,,I hope your game is fun,and remember, its that one shot that keeps us coming back. What a Game!!!!

Nike Machspeed SQ Irons

The look of the clubs was what atracted me first. I hit the clubs on a simulator and it feel good. So I decided to try them. I played one round with the club today and it is easy to hit and I don't think I have mishit many shots on irons today. The club is also long, and even one a mis-hit, it doesn't lose much of a distance. i made a thin shot using 4 iron about 200 yds away and the ball still rolled on to the green. Great clubs for gamr improvment ...

Im no pro golfer but this iron set helped my game! I bought this and the machspeed driver round head 9.5 loft and didnt get a chance to go to the range before we went and played. I shot the best round of my life. The driver helped correct my slice and I was even able to hit some draw shots with the Irons! Im Super happy with my purchase and it has made the game even more enjoyable for me! Thanks Nike and Ebay!!

I bought the set of Nike Mach Speed irons after testing several brands. Replaced my Taylor Made Burner irons because
I could not develop enough confidence/skill with them to be
consistant. I prefer the "feel" of the Nike irons and am
hitting much more consistantly. Even miss hits stay on line
and get fairly good distance. The Nike irons feel heavier
and I'm still adjusting to the short-short game with them.
I'm puzzled why Nike only offers this model in 4-AW and no
sand wedge? May-be they feel the MachSpeed SW is not as
good as some alternative model? If you want a sandwedge you
must buy it separately.
