As a small wonder for the tablet first-timers, and a nice side-arm for veterans, the Nexus 7 is great acquisition for those who want a portable media device and also a good device that has great touchscreen sensitivity. While it does not come with so much pre-installed software like the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0, or as commercial-packed like the Kindle Fire HD, it jumps strides in the field of customization and open possibilities it brings to the user.
On a personal note, what made me choose this tablet over many others was its affordable price, the great specs, and over everything, the great touchscreen sensitivity. Tablets are not commonly used as drawing devices but this was my best choice over my past tablet, a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, which had a great deal of included apps, decent specs but horrible sensitivity that made fuzzy lines whenever i traced diagonal lines. Once i had the Nexus 7, those awful experiences where over. Add around the fact that i use a Dagi pen and i have been happily drawing all over, like drawing on a small sketchbook!
Perhaps the lack of a back camera and its quite low front camera resolution brings around the least pleasant part of the device. At 1.3 MP it is very grainy at the best and pixelated at the worst, but then again, a tablet is not purchased to replace a dedicated camera, so this piece over here might better be used for Skype and other VoIP video-call services, though you might use it for avatars or those famous 'Myspace/Facebook shots' for fun. The battery has an average stand-by duration but drawing non-stop or playing around such HD games like "The Dark Meadow" drains the battery in about an hour of continuous use. Not sure if i am just using it a lot more than normal, or if this IS its normal battery life.
Excellent tablet, its my third and easily the best, two words, quad core, super fast no lag or hangup great screen resolution. Talk to text works very well. The only down side is the lack of expandable memory slot but you can get a cheap cable that is micro USB and able to accept flash drives. I also had an hdmi out on a very cheap tablet but none on this, oh well. Bluetooth is great. I can't say enough about battery life I easily get two days off a single overnight charge and even when very low it keeps working uneffected, my other tablets died abruptly when they still show 30% battery. Great great great tablet all around.
Everybody keeps saying, "It's not an iPad." That is a no brainer, it's a Nexus 7. For a $199 device it is fantastic.I own several iPads, iPhones, Macbooks, etc. They are fine devices. The Nexus 7 however is ultraportable and everything I was looking for in a device to carry on my job. The battery lasts all day provided you don't watch HD video for hours and play processor intensive games. It will do those things also, but you will need to carry the charger with you if you do. Even watching HD video and gaming, you will still get several hours out of the battery. Android 4.1 Jellybean is very smooth, but does have occasional hiccups, but I am very impressed by its performance. The flash player issue is kind of a bummer.Coming from iOS I was looking forward to seeing it in action on an Android device, and now they don't support it?! O well, I am not a big flash fan anyway, but I am a big Nexus 7 fan. I am eagerly awaiting the next Google tablet after my experience with this device. (Well minus the pre-order fiasco). Great device Asus & Google, keep up the good work. Google Now is also much faster than Siri for most queries, and I like the voice better, due to it being very natural sounding.
Google’s Nexus 7 isn’t just an excellent tablet for $200. It’s an excellent tablet, period. In fact, it’s the first Android tablet that I can confidently recommend to buyers — and not just because it’s got a low price tag (though that certainly helps). It’s a well-designed, powerful, and useful product, with lots of bells and whistles that makes it feel like a device that should be more expensive than it is.
There are still issues that need to be addressed — particularly around growing the tablet app footprint and expanding content offerings — but I don’t think those are deal breakers. The Nexus 7 delivers way more functionality than I expected, and it delivers it in a package that’s sleek, smart, and affordably priced.
Believe it or not, the last time I was surprised by a product with those same qualities, it was called the iPad.
I love the Nexus 7. The performance you get for the money is incredible, also, you get the latest and greatest version of Android, the absolute best mobile operating system.
The screen looks sharp and the color reproduction is great too. It's an excellent device for reading and consuming media.
My only issue is the speaker, it could and should have been better. Do yourself a favor and use headphones instead.
If you are looking for a great, small tablet I recommend this over anything, including the iPad Mini.
