| Gamers can enjoy classic Mario platforming, a host of new and updated modes, and five-man multiplayer action as Nintendo's ubiquitous plumber takes on his first truly HD adventure in New Super Mario Bros. U. The traditional Story mode finds players joining Mario, Luigi, Toad, or custom Mii characters as they travel through the Mushroom Kingdom on another journey to save Princess Peach from Bowser and the bothersome Koopalings. New power-ups let gamers glide and cling to walls with the Flying Squirrel suit or float through the air dangling from a Balloon Baby Yoshi. The Wii U platform gives Mario fans special options, such as five-man multiplayer action, with four gamers using Wii Remotes and the fifth using the GamePad to place helpful boost blocks or distract enemies. And If conflicts over the TV arise, players can always continue their adventure right on the GamePad screen. New Super Mario Bros. U also includes the new Boost Rush, Challenge, and Coin Battle modes. In Boost Rush, two to five gamers work together to speed through levels as quickly as possible, with the screen scrolling faster as players gather more coins. Challenge Mode is played in levels separate from the main game, and tests how well gamers perform various tasks. Coin Battle finds players speeding through levels in an attempt to grab the most coins, and it comes with a Coin Editor that allows gamers to create their own custom challenges. | |

Truly an excellent game that has endless tasks, quests and levels to complete. The graphics are amazing and even though the game play has changed, it has still kept it's addicting and original game play to make you feel right at home like a good book or favorite movie. The best part is that no matter how young or old this game is enjoyable for the whole family, especially with the new 5 player mode, that allows you to use your original Wii controllers! I honestly at this point have nothing bad to say about the game and I don't think I will either. If your even contemplating whether or not to purchase this game, then stop thinking and go out and buy it, I promise you will not regret it.
I wasn't sure if I wanted this game. I already had New Super Mario Bros. 2 on the 3DS. Then I heard about how they are going to have downloadable content in which they will have a whole new game featuring Luigi! At that point, I knew I had to get it. It really is worth it, even before the Luigi DLC comes out! It's fun to try it out with 5 players, but personally I don't like it. I'm not a fan of one player controller the screen, while everyone else has to catch up. I prefer to play just with the GamePad, which is really nice if someone is already watching TV. Another fun part is the comments you can see and leave on each level. If you do certain things, such as clear the stage with no damage, it posts that achievement and let's you comment on it. You also get TONS of items, so if you're stingy like me, you can just let loose and bulk up whenever! In addition to the main game, there are also multiplayer challenges, time-trials, and coin challenges!!! I'm halfway through and I can't wait to get through the rest!
Very fun game with new challenges, game modes and levels. As a 33 year old who has played just about every Mario game since the original Nintendo came out I will say that this does not disappoint. Even with most of the same characters and the same premise, the game is still fun and entertaining.
Very fun. Seems like programmers fine tuned all the controls. It can be played seamlessly without strange stuff happening, like unintended wall jumps or accidental killing of players in two player mode. Graphics are incredible, it's really bright and a true representation of the next chapter of Mario's saga. I felt the end, Bowser's castle specifically, could have been more challenging and cool. But I feel my expectations were in the stratosphere due to the beautifully constructed finish of Mario Brothers for Wii. Also the Wii U Pro Controller does not work with this game so beware. Also, the mini challenges really extend the playing life of the game, there are still multiple challenges I have not beaten, and now I've had the game a couple months.
My overall impression after playing and completing New Super Mario Bros. U is nothing but positivity. It's super fun to play if you complete the game with two players instead of by yourself. I found this version a big step up from the original with the new level of gaming that the Wii U Gamepad brings, the enhanced graphics, new levels and new story line. Overall I was very satisfied with my purchase and have no complaints
