Among the Netgear WNR834B's benefits are satisfying maximum throughput, a slick design, simple setup, comprehensive documentation, and tight security capabilities.
The Netgear WNR834B is one of the more expensive new Draft N routers around, and it takes a big speed hit in mixed-mode environments. Also, you can't adjust its antennas, since they're located inside the case.
Though its maximum throughput is solid and its speed at long range is respectable, the Netgear WNR834B's mixed-mode speed is not. Save your cash until more Draft N routers make it through CNET Labs.

NetGear WNR834B v2 - These are great ap/fw/routers! Can be bought cheap and the OS can be easily changed to: dd-wrt which is a fantastic flexible OS! (But you must follow the directions to install it!) I use them to create secure wireless bridges from my main ap/fw/router! I have built lots of these for friends and family! check out... http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/content/about
i just got mine and with the install CD it took less then 5 minutes and thats also getting my printer in the loop my vonage phone and my direct TV it stays cool and is as fast as can be.........i also love the range my TV is 4 rooms away and no problems, no wires or cables and when i hit u-tube on TV bam i,m there ...................nothing like my wgr614, i would recomend this router to anyone who has issues with range........when i hooked my tv up my 614 was so slow and dropped the internet every other time but this rangemax is great..........as long as you follow the step by step instructions that come with it a 5 year old can get it up and working.......great router
be very careful and cautious of these ebay sellers stating that for these wireless routers you only need to plug and play these dual 5.0/2.4ghz wirless routers. Because thats not the case!!!
Some of these con kids or old men scams don't tell the full story! When you upgrade these antennas with the appropriated u.fl connectors that don't require soldering and minor-mini welding; these ebay sellers forget to mention or hide that these antenna fixture only applies to the 5.0hz range. That is why the range is still poor after the upgrade on the 5.0 ghz range(in addition you need ohter hardwares). But the 2.4gh range is still poor!
Unless, you have desoldered and soldered carefully 2.4ghz connectors in the right work environment. And this can dangerous and costly! so take care when these kids and adults are trying to scam a story on ebay or craig's list or whereever!
Goto a certified technician to have it done properly. i would never trust someone who is just wing'in it! i.e; would you trust a kid or an adult's word that they are medically capable of vertebrae disc replacements? Electrical engineering certification are no more different than a medical degree execept that some EE occupations can be extremely difficult!
the dd-wrt is not recommended; its way to buggy and basically identical to most OEM's. moreover, the pwer output and cloaking features and various security do not work effectively. in its infantile beta forms, dd-wrt is not recommneded to anyone who not in the technical field and/or IT field. so don't blame the brouter or software if you are trying to be savvy!
Love the product. works great. I decided to buy the Netgear router to have a backup connection in the household in case the neighbor doesnt pay the bills. Appreciate the gesture Tom!
excellent item, great range, works perfect with mac and pc and it maintains the hi speed of the internet for fast downloads and uploads
