Good value for the price. Refurbished seems to be like-new.

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

I bought a refurb WNDR3400, not a new one. The $35 price can't be beaten. This is the second wireless router I've owned. I just bought a Netgear WRN2000 brand new in July, and then this N600 dual band router came up, so I upgraded. I expected stronger signal strength from the N600 WNDR3400, but I'm not really seeing any improvement in range and/or signal strength compared to my basic N300 router. They both perform the same; no change in signal strength or dropouts has been evident, so far. In that respect, I'm a little disappointed in the N600. That's why I rated it 4/5 for performance.

The N600 does offer more features, though. Not as many routers and wireless devices are on the 5GHz band, and having dual-band will be useful to me if I move to a more urban area.

The big blue light on mine apparently can't be turned off. But a friend has one, and he can turn off that light by tapping it. I've tried numerous times on mine, but no dice, haha. I guess I just have to turn it off if anyone wants to sleep in that bedroom.

Overall, I think it's a solid router, and an extremely good deal for $35. It offers more features and more customizations than the more basic routers do. It's still pretty good at $54 refurbished, but if you search around the Internet you may be able to get it for closer to $35 - $40 at Tiger Direct or other stores that offer refurbished items.

eta 9/12/12: After changing the wifi adapter to a pci-e D-Link DWA-566 and connecting on the 5GHz band, and depending on what server I pick, I have seen (speedtest.net) pings as low as 18, downloads 28.5-29, and uploads are pretty much stuck at .9-.96 regardless of what adapter or router I use. Those are nearly the same results that I get with the ethernet connection, and are limited by the slower but more budget-friendly Internet service option that I picked.

A decent router for the price

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

First of all I bought the WNDR3400 router used on an Ebay auction for $25 and at first had issues installing it. Once I reset it to factory specs and used the pre-loaded Netgear SSID and network key it has worked well. I tried using my own SSID and Password but it was no go. I gave up and used the Netgear pre-loaded ones. I bought the product to replace a Netgear wireless 54G router (that worked well by the way) in order to upgrade my home network to "N" speed. I wanted the dual band as I thought it would be the best for streaming movies and such through my blu-ray player. I am not quite sure that the dual band was necessary as I don't live in a crowded area. I only use the 5 Ghz band with my blu-ray player and have noticed the connection invariably drops while watching a program or movie. I don't know if it's the router or my blu-ray player as resetting the player brings back the connection. I use the 2.4 Ghz band for my computers and my WII and connections have been rock solid. The speed on the 2.4 Ghz band is faster than a direct wired connection but not appreciably so. Being that this router was used there were no instructions with it so I had to go to the Netgear website to download everything I needed. I consider myself somewhat knowledgeable when it comes to setting up these kind of things but even so I thought it an accomplishment that it works.

Does what I need it to do

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

I bought this unit as a spare for an identical Netgear router which I use occasionally at our second home. Download bandwidth from ISP there is ~25mbs and this style router makes use of it powering streaming video to multiple computers. The second unit is a reconditioned unit, so I got it at an extremely good price, 1/3 of the first unit.
