As the movies biggest fan,,, some sort of special edition was a must. The picture and description actually fell rather short, in describing what I eventually recieved. As it turns out, the "ultimate" designation refers not only to the bonus dvd material, but includes several fun christmas knick knacks, that are included, or used as packing!
You get a santa hat (with moose emblem, of course), a set of drink coasters embossed with memorable movie still scenes, complete with quotes, an "I survived..." lapel button, and a box of instant snow! (nifty powder stuff, add a little water and it expands like popcorn. looks and feels like snow! Reusable too!)
Best of all, everything comes packaged in a vertical holiday cookie tin, about the size of 5-6 dvd boxes standing together. Perhaps a bit taller. The outside is covered in more movie stills(over a white moose-wrapping-paper background!), and its a worthy christmas decoration in its own right!
I'll conclude by saying the laugh that I got, when I opened the case and spotted the embossment on the dvd, was worth the full purchase price, all by itself!
If you are a Christmas-Theme movie fan, a Vacation Series fan, a Chevy Chase fan, or especially, if, like me, your of the opinion that Christmas Vacation is the single funniest movie ever filmed, this is simply must have. And the price, the shipping, and the service left nothing to be desired. Highly Recommended! Merry Christmas!!!
I bought this movie because it is the ultimate family holiday film, playing on the heart strings and it captures the Christmas spirit. A true Christmas classic.
Grandmas, grandpas, mother-in-laws, father-in-laws, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles - they're all on their way to celebrate an old-fashioned Griswold family Christmas. With Clark being an everyman, is struggling to hold on to all of the seasons traditions. All he wants is for his family to experience love, even if they don't realize its importance. His teenaged children are growing up quickly and are more concerned with cool-factor rather than quality family time. Still, Clark marches on. His dreams are selfless. Even if the results are awkward, his intentions are always in the right place.
Clark's strong enthusiasm carries the film. Often his big ideas lead to disaster but he just keeps on going. His heart is always in the right place (except when he's cussing someone out with bitter criticism), even if his head isn't. Clark's motivations are so honorable that he's the ultimate dad that you don't want to have because you don't want to have to deal with all of the headaches, but it would be great if your friends had dads like him.
“Christmas Vacation” starts with a fast comedic pace and it never lets up until it gets to a slightly contrived ending. And when things do threaten to slow down Cousin Eddie (Randy Quaid) and his sad existence comes along to spice things up. Whereas Clark is a victim to circumstance, Eddie is just plain dumb.
Scene after scene, it is consistently hilarious. But the comedy wouldn't be nearly as good or memorable if it weren't for the heart of Clark Griswold. A great movie that makes my Christmas a little bit happier every year.
Chevy Chase is once again SPECTACULAR in delivering some of the silliest humor you will ever see. Beverly D'Angelo (YOWZA! What a hottie!) again compliments Chevys role in the picture well. All the worst things you can imagine going wrong at Christmas time happen in this movie. (And then some.) The Griswolds are simply just trying to have the hap-hap-happiest Christmas possible. But there is just a snowball effect of one bad thing after another happening throughout the ENTIRE movie. It has been said that comedy is drama that happens at someone elses expense. This movie epitomizes that statement. It is great for the entire family. And SURE to bring laughter into your home at Christmas time. It is a tradition in my house to see this flick every year. And there truly is a sense about the movie that makes you grateful for what you do have. National Lampoon does it again. This movie is a keeper. I give it 5 stars!
When the Griswold family goes out to find a Christmas tree in the woods reminds me of childhood in Colorado, and Idaho. However, when dad(Chevy Chase) forgets the saw, he pulls the tree out roots and all, and brings it home.
Of course the tree is giant and wil never fit. Both sets of inlaws show up in a single house as well as cousin Eddie (Quaid) and family, the great aunt and uncle show up as well. Dad lights up the entire house(outside) with lights. I mean bright! The family is just going crazy. The great uncle burns up the tree, so dad goes out and cuts down one from the yard. This involves a squirrel. By this time, the neighbors are very upset with him. The police get involved, and it is all so hilarious.
So now you know the story of the Griswold family.
I would reccomend this movie to anyone who likes Chevy Chase, because this movie is the goofiest of them all. Also, I would say that this is a good family Christmas movie that will make everyone laugh-hard.
This is my all time favorite movie! I saw it on TV, ran out and bought the VHS, years later bought the DVD, when it came on HBO, I taped it, just so I can have it when ever I want to watch it.
Honestly, I must have seen this movie 30 times over the years.
I love Chevy Chase, absolutely love Uncle Louis, I love all the vacation movies!
The movie and story just makes you feel all comfy cozy for the holidays, like a kid again..
Its really funny and Randy Quaid makes it all the more funnier!
You must see it!
