I love playing retro Games.Superstar abilities are fun to watch Still a fun arcade-style basketball game The biggest new feature added to NBA Live 06 in this go-around is freestyle superstar control. In a nutshell, star players who have the requisite physical talent will be able to unleash a variety of supermoves on the court as a way to distinguish them from your average NBA player. So while your typical journeyman point guard won't have access to superstar passing abilities, you will be able to whip wraparound passes and fancy dishes with all-star point men like Jason Kidd or Steve Nash. There are six different types of superstars in all, including scorers, high flyers, playmakers, power players, sharpshooters, and stoppers. A single player can simultaneously be a stopper and one of the first five, but he or she can't be two different types of superstars at once. If your chosen star has the requisite ability, you can change his default superstar designation, though. So a player like Kobe can be switched from scorer to high flyer if you like.
This game is great for pick up and play, but also or a big epic career mode (for a sorts game). I love to play as Steve Nash and score 3 pointers all day. The superstar abilities make the game different than any other. Also, the game let's you do cool moves, dunks, passes, and lay-ups without seeming too over the top and unbelievable. This is such a great game...get it as soon as you can!!!
NBA Live 06 is pretty good for a realistic basketball game. The play control is pretty smooth, although it could use some improvement. The graphics are good but not great. Overall it's a good game and includes some fun features like a 3-point contest and a dunking contest. The superstar mode is also pretty cool, which allows great players to make spectacular plays. I've found that it's hard to find a great basketball game with really smooth controls. Personally, I like the NBA Street games best. They are not realistic basketball games (players can pull off crazy moves and they can make some unreal dunks) but the play control is the smoothest I've ever played and the games are lots of fun. And the games are pretty short (first to 21 points) so me and my friends can play NBA Street for hours. With NBA Live 06 we usually just play one game which takes about an hour and then we are ready to play something different.
I like this NBA Live better than Live 2005. It has much looser gameplay, and the freestyle features are more fun. The player's heads and body sizes could be a bit more symetrical but I'm okay with it. It seems that with every version there are less and less players on the bench rooting you on if not just sitting there making the back drop seem boring. It may not be as complete as my favorite: NBA Live 2004 but it's much more up to date having the newest stars such as Dwight Howard, Chris Paul and Daron Williams as well as the courts. So I can deal with the flaws (CPU cheats, Low lighting, and xtra-small fonts during gameplay) as I needed a challenge (NBA Live 2004 gets pretty easy and predictable because it's it's motion capture is so based on real movement) as well as an upgrade (system-wise not game-wise, in that 04 really thought about the NBA game environment and experience more while 06 focuses on the cool moves) which I think 06 offers.
I was very excited when I first bought this game but when I actually played it I was very disappointed. The graphics look very bad and the players look like they are made out of clay. The controls are confusing because there are two different shoot buttons and based on the situation the player is in, you have to decide which one to use.
On the other hand, the dunk contest is very fun.
