This is the set that die-hard My So-Called Life fans have been waiting for since the show sadly went off the air in 1995. Aside from the 19 absolutely wonderful episodes, there's commentary from creator Winnie Holzman, super producers Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick, directors Adam Dooley and Scott Winant, and cast members Claire Danes, Wilson Cruz, Bess Armstrong, Devon Gummersall, and Lisa Wilhoit. There's also cast interviews with nearly everyone involved with the show as well as an interview with W.G. "Snuffy" Walden, the musical genius of the show. Claire and Winnie sit down for an interview as well and it's great to see the love that they have for each other even after 13 years. Also included is the 1995 Museum of TV and Radio panel the cast participated in. The only downside to this set is that Jared Leto (Jordan Catalano) was unable to contribute due to a world tour with his band, 30 Seconds To Mars; the cast and crew speaks warmly of him though.
This set is definitely worth checking out and Shout! Factory gives MSCL the attention and love this show so definitely deserves. Even after the final episode's credits roll, you'll find yourself wishing for a time machine so you could go back and stop the suits at ABC from ending such a diamond-in-the-rough show (I know I do!). DEFINITELY invest in this set. You won't be disappointed!
Without going into all kinds of detail, this series was awesome.
It's High School friend who come from very different backgrounds, and their living situations basically cover pretty much of what actually does go on in real life.
Although this is just series, message of this family based series is all about being accepted.
Dispite the times, being in the 90's, it's really what life is about no matter what era / generation one is born in.
We all want to be accepted and loved.
This is a very touching story of how friends stick together, and remind each other that theya re never alone.
I cried through much of it as I could REALLY FEEL the characters lonelyness, especially Rickie, and Jordan Catalano.
These two are pretty much loners, but Rickie really needs to know that he does fit in dispite his differences and the fact that he is gay.
He has so much love to give, and thanfully for him, he realizes that he can turn to his friends.
Jordan plays with the notion that any girl is lucky to have him.
He is well respectful in so many ways, and finally realizes that he is smart and is worth being loved in return.
Great Box set and suggest that any teen see this series.
It may turn a few heads. I know it did mine and I'm in my 40's.
An excellent choice and it's very heartfelf and touching.
I highly recommend "MY SO CALLED LIFE" to any age group.
I think it will help kids to understand what a parent's role really means in their lives, and also their friends.
It's all about being loved and accepted. Very important concepts in life that we cannot live without.
This was very interesting for me to watch fifteen years after I originally saw it. In 1994, I realated with the teenagers, and enjoyed seeing their angst as I was going through mine. Now as I watched it, I found myself relating to the parents.I wish I would have taken notes as a teen for I have one very important question. Why did Angela choose her new friends? As mentioned before as a teen I totally got it. Now, sadly I do not. If I did understand that a lot of my angst as a mother of a burgeoning teen would be answered. All these points aside My-So-Called-Life is a fantastic right on story of teeneagers, theri families, and what it is like to grow up. The actors are fantastic. The writing is incredible. I do wish there would have been more seasons. But the one season does stand alone as a great story. Most plots are tied up and you feel satisfied with the season as a whole.Anyone who enjoyed this show in the early nineties will strill enjoy it today. It deals with the timeless issue of growing up wether you are fifteen or forty.
The corny Halloween and Christmas episodes really tanked my initial enthusiasm about the show. I guess they did a great job of delving into the mind and emotional hangups of a typical teenage girl, aptly played by Clair Danes. But most of the characters bugged me, especially Angela's neurotic mother Patty Chase and their neighbor Brian Krakow. Some interesting story lines, but overall I wasn't overly impressed.
This beautiful, six disc box set beautifully showcases the writing and the acting that I've loved for fifteen years. The interviews and conversations on the additional disc allow the viewer to experience a little bit of what it was like to work on the show. I would recommend this box set to anyone...both fans of the show and those who have not yet had the privilege of being present during the life journeys of Angela and the Chase family as well as their tightly knit groups of friends.
