Proving that bigger is rarely better, The Mummy Returns serves up so much action and so many computer-generated effects that it quickly grows exhausting. In his zeal to establish a lucrative franchise, writer-director Stephen Sommers dispenses with such trivial matters as character development and plot logic, and charges headlong into an almost random buffet of minimum story and maximum mayhem, beginning with a prologue establishing the ominous fate of the Scorpion King (played by World Wrestling Federation star the Rock, in a cameo teaser for his later starring role in--you guessed it--The Scorpion King). Dormant for 5,000 years, under control of the Egyptian god Anubis, the Scorpion King will rise again in 1933, which is where we find The Mummy's returning heroes Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, now married and scouring Egyptian ruins with their 8-year-old son, Alex (Freddie Boath). John Hannah (as Weisz's brother) and Oded Fehr (as mystical warrior Ardeth Bay) also return from The Mummy, and trouble begins when Alex dons the Scorpion King's ancient bracelet, coveted by the evil mummy Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo), who's been revived by... oh, but does any of this matter? With a plot so disposable that it's impossible to care about anything that happens, The Mummy Returns is best enjoyed as an intermittently amusing and physically impressive monument of Hollywood machinery, with gorgeous sets that scream for a better showcase, and digital trickery that tops its predecessor in ambition, if not in payoff. By the time our heroes encounter a hoard of ravenous pygmy mummies, you'll probably enjoy this movie in spite of itself. --Jeff Shannon

SUPER-CHARGED WITH PULSE-POUNDING ACTION AND SPECTACULAR SPECIAL EFFECTS THAT'LL BLOW YOU AWAY, THE MUMMY RETURNS IS "THE BEST ADVENTURE MOVIE OF THE YEAR!"
There are a few cases in film history where a sequel is actually better than the original. "The Mummy Returns" is not one of those cases. But it's not completely bad either. Its basic problem is a question of balance. The original was famous because of its clever mix of action and comedy. In this case, whether you believe it or not, there's just too much action and too much comedy. As for the plot, with its tale of ancient reincarnations, duels of fate, supernatural armies, lost cities and even more magical artifacts than the first movie, it's just too ambitious to be taken seriously. The biggest flaw of the movie is, therefore, its excess.
But in spite of this problem, some characters take an interesting twist. The leader of the Magi (Odeh Fer) turns out to be an even more amazing hero than he was in the first movie, and the character of Evi (Rachel Weisz) is no longer the naive, bookish girl that she was before. Now she evens wields swords, daggers and guns just like his husband Rick. Some new characters, like Ank-Suna-Mun (Patricia Velásquez) and the Scorpion King (The Rock) are also welcomed. This time, however, Imhotep is not as cool as he was before. You can even say he's kind of weak. I think that losing your immortality forces you to play it safe for a while.
The producers also put a lot of special features on this edition, even more than they did in the first movie, but even they get old, because the first movie already covered the special effects aspect too well. In conclusion, you should watch it if you l
Continued from " The Mummy " this episode stars Scorpian King (The Rock), Rick (Fraser) and Evelyn (Weisz)and their son Alex (Boath). The High Priest as Imhotep (Vosloo). After finding the bracelet that can control the Scorpian King armies, Alex accidently wears it and it cannot come off. Now in a matter of time before Alex gets turned into something you don't want to know, his family is on their way to the Egpyt again. Now they have to face their enemies once again, and this time something is standing in their way. That is the Scorpian King. However just barely managing to get to the pyramid in time before sunlight, that was not over yet. Imhotep wants to slay the scorpian king to control his armies. However he fails, scorpian was slayed by Rick. Now for the final moment of life or death. The whole pyramid and everything around it is being sucked up and they have to get out of there ASAP. With the help of their friend Izzy and his flying boat ship, they manage to get out alive with a souvenir. I only summarize the quick main points of this movie. The rest if up to you to watch and enjoy. Hope you enjoy this movie as i did. GREAT MOVIE, GREAT ACTING, A MUST SEE! 10 out of 5 stars!
