With Google's next generation of Android, Motorola's knack for great hardware, and Verizon's promise of 4G network compatibility, the Xoom tablet technically offers a more powerful, more capable alternative to Apple's iPad.
It's expensive, slightly heftier than the iPad, and novice users may balk at Android 3.0's read-the-manual attitude. Adobe Flash not yet supported.
The Xoom's spec sheet is enough to make any tablet tremble, but the price is high and Google still has some work to do before its tablet software experience is as fleshed out and intuitive as Apple's.

Motorola Xoom is one of the best tablets available on the market, featuring great performance, an efficient user interface and a good multimedia experience. However, the software is still a bit unstable, I had a few applications crash with error messages, the Facebook app for instance (which is buggy on Froyo as well) – but this could be the responsibility of the app developer, not Android or the device manufacturer. Hopefully things will get better with the next update.
Personally, I prefer the iPad 2 for the design, the better user experience (with the exception of the disappointing camera) and the lower price. But others may prefer the Xoom for its customization capabilities, the ability to access Flash content in the browser, voice input for search and typing, the superior quality of the camera (software and hardware)& the higher screen resolution.
I purchased the Xoom recently and as the owner of 3 tablets, I have to say that this is by far the best tablet you can buy (yes and that includes the IPAD 2).
I currently own the IPAD 2, the Xoom and the Archos 101.
While the Ipad 2 is very nice and has a great overall finish and feel to it, it simply cannot stand up against the performance and features of the Xoom.
The one thing the Ipad 2 does have that the Xoom doesnt is a plethora of specific Apps made just for tablets. Since purchasing the Xoom I have installed about 50 apps from the Android market and all but 1 works perfectly so its not all bad. Once the developers start making more honeycomb specific apps, it will really be no contest at all.
- Screen - 10 - The resolution and screen are absolutely beautilful
- Apps - 8 - While most apps work perfectly on the Xoom, the android market is made up of mostly phone apps.
- Sound - 9 - The sound is really great...Could be a tad louder.
- Features - 10 - Not even the Mighty Ipad 2 can stand up to the features here. The cameras are better, the os takes advantage of the great hardware, items like live wallpapers and dynamic widgets just blow you away as you get to use these features.
As you can tell, I really like this device. Ive read some other reviews and people were saying their devices were crashing and didnt hardly have apps that worked, im not sure if its because I purchased mine after the update or what, but mine works absolutely perfect. Even some of the apple fan boys at work are purchasing the Xoom after they got to see what mine could do.
I highly recommend this device.
I have owned an Ipad 1 & 2. I figured I would try this tablet because my phone is an android. Plus I didnt have much to lose & I LOVE my phone. So I haved used this thing for about a week now. I do not have any many cons about this product but tons of pros. PROS - Very very good battery life. Awsome Camera's (for a tablet). Amazing sound system. Picks up wifi pretty well. Super thin & light. Screen is the P E R F E C T size. Very easy to work (without reading manual). Love how you can get blockbuster or netflix. I am in love with the F R E E apps :). Anyway that you turn the tablet it picks up fast and will rotate the screen within 1-3 seconds. Tablet & Internet has lighting fast speed. Works really good on skype or oovoo. As you can see I can go on & on all day long lol. # 1 CON - It will get a little hot if you use it for hours & hours & if you have it on the charger & use it for hours. Other then that I LOVE LOVE LOVE this thing. Android has done it again. I will be a lifetime costumer. Im Very Satisfied!
This thing is awesome. I have a I pad first generation and the xoom blows it away. It come with flash and all my apps are sync from Google. Battery life is good as long as you download the app kiler because there are usually 10 apps running in the background. The weight is the only drawback. It is a little heavier than the I pad but the tablet itself is way better. As for the value for the money, Verizon will try and over charge you if you let them, so buy it from ebay for under 350. I got the wifi version because wifi is almost everywhere you go and the GPS works without any connectivity needed. So don't pay capped data through Version and Att!! You can view full versions of wzebites too!! But you cannot play some Facebook games on here yet but hopefully that will change.
Well, I should have listened to all the reviews. I received the upgrade to Android 3.1 the day I turned my XOOM on. Overall, a very nice toy. Yes, it's just a toy. I was really hoping to be able to use the USB connection to add the extra needed storage and, just like all the other reviews state - it just plain does not work. Many games, not only are not in the 10.1 format and have poor resolution, many, only give you a screen size of a cell phone. I do enjoy Angry Birds though. My daughter has the iPad 2, and I must say, the picture quality of the XOOM is much better - BUT, she gets Netflix and I don't. Google really needs to get the Android OS up to par with Apple.
