This phone is great! I previously owned an older flip phone and I had been wanting a smart phone for a while. Most smart phones require a premium package that runs anywhere from $65-100+ from most carriers but I can get up to 2.5 GB's per month of data and 300 minutes (fine for me) with Virgin Mobile. This phone is a little complicated to figure out at first and the directions are very basic. But I like that I am constantly finding new features and apps; I can Skype other people with the two cameras; I can watch movies on Netflix both at home (WIFI) and using the phone network and the quality is still great! And with the android market I can find many other free and low cost apps for it.
One of the two things I don't like about the phone is the battery life. I work at a battery store and I've seen that most people with smart phones get about 1 day out of their phones. I usually have to plug in my phone at work to make it the whole day. I've had to go in and shut off things manually and adjust the screen brightness but I can only get a full day's charge if I don't use it much and it is in standby mode. I purchased a second battery and an external charger, so now it is less of an issue but compared to the 4-5 days I could get out of my old phone it left me quite surprised.
The other problem with the phone involves the slow data speeds and lack of coverage I get with Virgin Mobile. A co-worker looked up the specs for the phone and said almost everything about it was impressive compared to other phones except that it has one band it relies on to make calls and send and receive data. He said most other phones had 2 or more bands which meant they could get more and better coverage overall. But at half the monthly price of most other carriers, I am willing to put up with some slower speeds and spotty coverage.
This clever little device is simply amazing beyond words. Besides the fact that it's elegantly designed and perfectly sized, it is so intuitive, my 3 year old operates it. It is so choke full of useful features in the most accessible way - some you never even thought you'd need till you saw them. The touchscreen feature is very responsive.
I bought it from rave reviews while shopping for an android phone with a "little more" - completely worth every penny I spent, almost to the point I feel like I robbed motorola.
The battery life was atrocious at first, but I got a free app called "Easy Battery Saver" - and on advanced mode, it manages my connections, apps and other background operations, and on average usage (internet with 3G, texting, voice calls - no GPS and no wireless or bluetooth turned on) I have managed 3 days on one charge - yes!!! 3 days on a smartphone.
Needless to say, I have it insured, if it breaks or gets lost, I am getting the exact same one or one up in the same model should they further refine it.
Hmmm...I feel like I haven't done this phone justice - it is a really good piece of equipment, and that is just not saying it emphatic enough. Tell you what, best you test drive one yourself, you will be pleasantly surprised!
By golly, I think I have finally gotten the cell phone that makes me happy. My choices were limited by being a Virgin customer, of course. I had the Optimus V and after using it for a year, decided I needed either a bigger screen or a slide-out keyboard. I tested an Optimus slider, but the keys seemed to be quite hard to pres - I could imagine getting pains in my thumb joints after a while! The Triumph seemed a bit heavy, but the bigger screen was a huge selling point. I took the plunge, and, after installing the free app Super Keyboard (the 'buttons' are a bit easier to hit and the auto-texting options are very good) I am able to thumb-text almost as well as when I had a Blackberry. And of course, there is more internal memory, AND it plays Flash! Nice. I bought higher capacity batteries to deal with the battery-life issue; other than that, I just have to learn to manage my apps more efficiently, and of course always have a spare and a charger just in case. I recommend installing a 'Task Killer' app to quickly close apps that insist on running even after you think you closed them. It does seem to hang up sometimes when I am hitting the 'go back' button, but I can skip that by hitting the 'home' button. Also, I have a problem trying to copy files directly to the SD card because it seems to want to be plugged into a high-power USB port, but even plugging into the one I have does not get my laptop to recognize the SD card. The one thing more I am considering is whether or not to root the phone so I can upgrade the OS. Otherwise, I just LOVE this phone. Like having a mini-tablet. And being on Virgin means I have unlimited text and data, plus I have 1000 minutes for $45. Such a deal.
Got mine during the holiday discounts for this model. Wound up getting one for the wife too(dumped older iphone too much$$ for new plus no more contracts). I had an older driod so everything was easy to transition including contacts. Nice big screen battery will drain like most of these larger droids...I keep a charger ready in the car and usb chord at the office and I've been fine. Have had two occasions where it responded odd during inputs but after a quick restart seems fine. Has more features than I will use. I do not play tons of games or download music other than free tones or rare times use a radio app. The network runs fine in the Phoenix market with no dead spots that I've found yet. Travel to Las Vegas, Denver and San Diego on the road and had just a few temporary signal drops while using google nav. Not bad for $45 month phone with no contract or surprises. I have had 2 times needed help during the porting and crediting and Virgin helped me out just fine. They don't bomb you with extras and offers every other day...just provides me the service. I would buy again.
Went from an LG Optimus to this phone because I wanted a bigger screen and more internal memory. I love this phone and am so happy I got it. I used to have an iPhone as a company phone and this phone does everything the iPhone did at half the price.
The only problem I have had so far is that once in a while the keys kinda freeze up, I'm not sure if it's the keys or the screen protector I put on the phone.
I decided to get this phone after reading many reviews and am happy I did. It is nice not being locked into a cell phone contract. I had Verizon for many years and I have a friend who is still with them, they are paying twice what I pay per month for Virgin Mobile service for the same features I have on my cell plan. The phone works great too, and I have read that Virgin Mobile uses Sprint towers so the reception hasn't been a problem.
My only real complaint with this phone is battery life, as with any smart phone, it just isn't there yet. Shouldnt be a problem if you have a car charger and an extra wall charger laying around. This is an excellent phone and I am very happy with it, I wanted to own it a couple months before I wrote a review on it.
If you buy one of these you will not be sorry, nice big screen, excellent camera with flash and very fast, of course you can download just about any app out there and the Android operating sytem is great.
Do yourself a favor and upgrade today, you wont be sorry.
