I was looking for the best 3G phone that works on the Verizon network and the Droid X2 definitely fits the bill. The deal with my pre-paid carrier (PagePlus)is so sweet, I will never go back to Verizon, but I can only use a 3G phone. This phone is awesome! I was upgrading from Windows Mobile pand I was really impressed with what Android has to offer. Some of the apps out there are amazing! The phone is fast and the screen is sharp and bright. It works great for watching Netflix videos and can be hooked up to a TV with an HDMI cable. I love having instant access (no boot time or cumbersome login) to the web, email, games, books,etc... For me, the screen is just the right size to discreetly surf the web, read a book, or play a game. The phone itself has great call quality too.
On the down side, the Android OS doesn't have adequate privacy controls. It seems like every app you download from the marketplace wants to track your every move. And all of these apps running in the background hog valuable memory; it would have been nice if the phone had come with a gig of RAM to match its fast dual core processor. Overall, though it's a great phone. I've had mine for about a month and I was so impressed, I just bought one for my wife.
The versatility and solid performance of this multi-functional dual core processor phone are wonderful. The Droid X2's phone quality is everything I understood it would be. Its response for Internet and email access is superb. I never wait for sluggish connectivity. The many wonderful toggle apps that can be placed on the home screen help me to organize effectively (Wi-Fi switch, calendar, etc). The battery is a lion of a performer with little risk of running low with careful use.
The Droid X2's quality for streaming videos is highly acceptable. I'm not much of a gamer at all, so I can't speak to that. However, I'm interested in getting an HDMI cable and trying it with my flat screen TV.
Any expectation I have for it (including the wonderful GPS system) is fully met and exceeded. There's no hype with this phone. The camera is superb. I had heard about overheating of the battery area, but the Forums do mention recommended solutions for this (if this problem applies to you). Motorola's design is well-integrated so that you always know if you missed a phone call, received a text or an email. You can read incoming texts and emails while on the phone.
I can't say enough about this phone. If you give it a chance you will love what you learn and make a solid friend. I intend to keep mine for years to come.
I have not owned its predecessor, however compared to the other smart phones that I had, the Samsung Illusion and the iPhone 4, this phone is beyond awesome. There are some decent third party accessories out there, not as many as iPhone boasts, but enough of the important ones come to mind support this model. Ones that come to mind are the Zagg covers and the Otter cases. Believe it or not, there are many phones with zero accessories out there, so this is a plus. Now to more important things, the battery life is longer than my last phone (the Illusion), the screen is much brighter and clearer. They touch keyboard- phenomenal! LOVE it. It responds so well, and is quick at bringing up the words that you intend to use. That is the best feature by far. I have had this for over a week now, and the only thing that I do not like is occassionally, the bottom back portion of the phone gets really hot. I have not been able to figure out if some program is causing it, or that it just gets hot sometimes. Hopefully a case will not aggravate that when it comes in the mail and I install it. Five stars overall from me, great phone, good job Motorola.
I bought this phone to run some Android aps. I didn't wish to sign a 2 year contract just to see what a smart phone could do and to try the aps. You can connect to the internet using a wifi hotspot to down load aps and updates.
Well...Surprise Surprise.. First thing this device insists you do is activate with Verizon and pay them $30/mo for Smart phone service.
As a phone I'll take my old flip phone any day. To call my wife I'd flip it open, press her speed dial # and hit send.
I could do it all holding the phone in one hand. With this thing you have to get it out of the case, turn it on, select phone, select favorites, pick the number and then send.
The capacitive touch keyboard is awfully sensitive, and in portrait orientation impossible to type intelligently. In landscape orientation, holding it in one hand and using the pinky finger of the other, I can get the right letter about 30% of the time. There is an app called Swift Key that is quite good at guessing what you tried to hit, and give you 3 choices for the proper word. No way I can type on this thing with two thumbs like the kids do.
I spent quite a bit of time researching Android phones and the aps. Nothing was mentioned about having to be activated with Verizon premium service.
All in all if you want a smart phone I guess this is a good one, not the latest in tech, but you aren't signing up for 2 years either.
Camera is AWESOME, video camera is even better. App download speeds are awesome, expandable memory and a card included YAY
Cons: When you multitask the battery is killed fast.
Summary: I got this phone 2 hrs ago, but I can say, after playing around with it for about a day now in store and now, it is one of the best phones I'VE had (now that I received it)
First, the camera is JUST AMAZING. I had an iPhone 4 before, and as you know it has a 5 MP camera. This has an 8. It looks much better. I really don't have any complaints on the camera.
The speakers sound awesome. I downloaded some songs from windows media to the phone, and played them back while I went jogging this morning, and without headphones, and some guys lawn mower running LOL, I could still hear the music perfectly fine.
I have one small issue with the battery going down, if I'm listening to Pandora and texting at the same time the battery life decreases fast. I may have to get the extended battery. Besides this, I love my phone, and love Android
