First I have to say I just LOVE the phone. I wanted the Star Wars edition when it first came out at Best Buy, but circumstances prevented that. Then when I was ready to get it, they were no longer offering it so I had to come to Ebay. I am not a Star Wars fan. I think I only saw the original Star Wars movie. I just thought it was very cute, being R2D2 and all. I checked the price of the regular Droid2 on Ebay and it wasn't that much less so decided to go ahead with the Star Wars version. This is my first droid phone and I have only had it 1 month.
Things I love about the phone:
The R2D2 ringtones, alerts, and sounds. It's very easy to mute or change the alerts, also.
R2D2 on the back.
The animated wallpapers, specially the one where the Millennium Falcon goes to warp speed and R2D2 screams.
The ease that I can add things to my home page, access the app market, and overall personalization of the phone, it has 7 homepages.
Also like the ease that I can change the data settings on the phone to conserve battery, access the wifi, bluetooth, and satellite settings. I have it set to only run background data unless in wifi hotspot, if I'm out and need to access something it's just a couple clicks to turn full data on.
I thought I wanted Motorola Droid because it has a physical keyboard that slides out and I would need that. But I am finding the virtual keypads unexpectedly easy to use. I specially like the swipe input. It is extremely easy. I find myself almost never using the slide out keyboard. Because of my long fingernails, it's more difficult to use than the virtual keyboard!
I don't watch very many videos with my phone, but the ones I have watched on Youtube played very nicely, loaded well with no lag, picture is clear, sound played nicely.
Things I dislike about the phone:
The animated wallpapers are awesome but they slow down the phone, which is the only reason I gave it a good feature rating. I really wish the slide show pics would also be avail as separate pics so I could just set them as background, none of the background pics avail have Darth Vader in them.
It's difficult to find out how to change the display settings for the docking cradle, had to Google it.
It came with a clear protective case but that has to be removed every night to set the phone in the Star Wars Dock. The case already has stress cracks from putting it on and off repeatedly. Luckily I have a really nice leather pouch that if fits in nicely. Now I just have to not drop it :)
I am finding it fairly difficult to navigate the address book. A Facebook contact recently got a cell phone & it won' t allow me to add his new number to the existing contact. I had to create a new contact. So I have a FB contact & a separate contact without a picture. I thought I could link the two but am not finding that option, now.
I had an issue with setting up my calendar, kept getting an error. I asked VZ for help and they just told me I had to set up a Google acct to access the feature. I already had a Google acct. This too, I had to Google to find the solution. Now that the calendar is loaded I like it, ok.
The signal seems to not be as good as my old phone. It mostly ranges between 1-3 bars when my old phone always had full signal. I have not had any issues with dropped calls, though, so it appears to be a minor problem.
Overall, I love my phone and if I had the option to get it again, I would.
If we had known this phone was so cool, we would have bought it during our upgrade period instead of on eBay. This phone is extremely user friendly and FUN! It garners a lot of attention from those around you just because of it's nature of being R2D2 and using the sounds R2D2 made during the movies. The slide out keyboard is easy to use as well as is the touch screen. Battery life, phenomenal!
This Motorola R2D2 (A957) is clearly the best model on he market. I purchased this from OEMDEALZ on EBAY located in California , They answered all my (many) Questions professionally & acurrately. I am verry plesed with what I have bought. Nothing ever goes wrong with it, It's better than a computer & fits in my pocket. Has "Wi-Fi" , which means it works any where there is a wi fi availible, With-Out phone services. I will purchase another one soon & from the same Dealer , ( OEMDEALS )
I really do love this phone. I may not be the most tech savvy or the biggest phone user for that matter, but this phone passes with flying colors for me. It has the best battery of the droid market I have seen thus far and does meet my expectations considering. I love the keyboard, OS, size, durability, speaker, external finish...etc. The camera at 5MP is the only down feature to speak of for me. It really sucks that this phone gets so ragged by the iphone Hope you consider this phone if you are on the market. Have a good day!
I bought this personally because it is a droid based r2d2 cell phone plus the motorola i had so many other phones that get bad with sending and receiving messages it would glitch and or freeze up or turn off this one none of that happens if it doe's your phone should be checked but i do recommend this phone iphone has been played out i went through so much with them i changed it within a week i bought a new phone and sold it i like all the features this phone brigs to the table nothing like it must have product. thebestyet
