The Motorola Defy is tough enough to withstand everyday hazards with its tough Gorilla glass and rugged exterior. Features include a 5-megapixel camera, a music player, Wi-Fi calling, and GPS, and it ships with Android 2.1. Call quality is excellent.
The Motorola Defy doesn't take very good pictures and its rough-and-tumble aesthetic isn't for everyone. We also wished we didn't have to activate the Motoblur account to use the phone.
The Motorola Defy is a great midtier Android smartphone, especially for those who need a phone to be a little more protected against life's everyday mishaps.

I was looking for a top 10 phone replacement for my 2nd hand motorola k1 red edition, and I was about to choose between Defy, Droid, Iphone ,BB Storm2 & Samsung Smartphone line up.
First of all.... The term "Can handle everything that life throws your way" caught my attention. I must say that I'm a careful guy when talking about gadgets but it came to my attention that the phone will resists drops (every moto does, but not as advertised) water, dust and some other thins that could damage part of the phone (screen) or make it die... but you know, when happens s**t happens, so it's better to be prepare for that.
2nd thing was the simplicity of the phone, 2 external button (volume and turn on-off screen) anything else it's in your screen. Some people does not like the motoblur interface but I believe that it's not bad at all.
3rd was the screen size, 3.7" is perfect for me, I thing that bigger that you'll be buying a mini tablet.
4th was the 5MP camera takes pretty good pictures and video, sharp, good color balance and also have a flash (led one but does the job - please take in mind that never... NEVER a phone can take Quality Pictures as a Photo Camera does).
And 5th and last one... the price... 365 Shipped and Unlocked it's a Very Good Price for a phone like this... Maybe DROID can be more powerful but for the use that I'm giving to the phone (talk, little web surfing, SMS and 2- 3 pic per week) I believe that I do not need anything else.
Samsung and Iphone are expensive for me, BB and Apple too like to make phones with good intentions but mid-potential (last ones are so so) in other words BB and Iphone are the "Fanciest and today famous phone that everyone likes to showoff".
Maybe one thing is that Android Honeycomb OS (just for now for tablets) has just came out to light a couple of days and many people is asking, what's going to happen with my phone? If you're planning to but a DEFY don't be worried because in 2Q of this year (2011) the OS will be updated so basically you will rebirth your phone - rumors says that maybe a HD video update will come.
Something that I forgot to mention it's that if you like music, you wake it up with a 32GB SDHC micro card and have hours of tunes (I've just sold my 1st.Gen 30GB ZUNE in order to make my Defy a Juke Box - 2gb card it's included).
To end If you are thinking about a pretty nice phone upgrade but don't want to spend much, DEFY is the one for you.
Having the bad reputation of cell phone killer (my cell phones have a life expectancy of about six months) I have had quite a few; blackberry, Motorola, Siemens, Nokia, Ericson, etc, etc…….
Finally now there is a cell phone that was build with the intention of being handled like a tool and not like a wine glass….
lets face it, your cell phone will fall sooner or later, you will take it to the beach and how many of us answered an important call while we were in the shower or when it’s raining outside.
I will still put it to the test but it fell a few times already, survived the water glass test!!!
So finally a rugged cell phone that doesn’t look like a brick and this phone can handle it all and then some…….
The value for money is good, I get this unit with the touch problem (dead zone).
characteristics:
Android 2.2
GPS
Wifi
Multi-Touch (2 point)
Gorilla glass
multilanguage
Speed and reliability!
My wife has broken three phones for half a year - therefore I searched for something strong and thus modern - both on design, and under characteristics.
Motorola Defy - possesses all parameters of modern phone - gps, MULTITACH, the fast Internet and thus satisfies to the most strict standards of security (glass gorilla, underwater etc.)
My small daughter already has tried to play with new phone - only for this evening was somewhere from three falling.
I recommend this phone to those who conducts an active way of life and thus doesn't want to lag behind on equipment!
I bought the Motorola DEFY three weeks ago and was immediately impressed with the number of features available on this inexpensive phone. It has a 5M-pixel camera, video camera, and speakerphone. The NewPhone's size is perfect for carrying in a pocket. Most impressive that the phone can work under water, I did that test as soon as have got it. This phone is high recomenden for people who like extrim and like travel.
