|The Motorola A455 Rival is built for the people who love to text. It has a keyboard that slides from the right side, which keeps it relatively compact for a slider phone at 3.8 x 2 x 0.71-inches. The screen of this slider phone is partially capacitive for on-screen dialing or selecting contacts. Texting, instant messaging, and e-mail are all available on the Motorola A455 Rival, so keeping in touch with friends and family is easy, even if you don't feel like calling. There is also a web browser for quickly checking websites. Multimedia features are also a standout of this Motorola phone; you can shoot your own videos and play them back, as well as access videos on the web. Other add-ons include GPS navigation, as well as support for a number of music file types on the Motorola A455 Rival. This Motorola phone features exceptional audio quality for both calls and music, especially when used with headphones. Buyers considering a text-heavy phone will appreciate the keyboard, while others will enjoy the variety of multimedia features and Bluetooth connectivity.|

The Motorola Rival offers a slew of multimedia features and good call quality.
The Motorola Rival's navigation controls are poorly designed. Also, it has a lackluster display.
Though we like the Motorola Rival's features, its poor design keeps us from recommending it.

This is really a great phone for the price. Especially for teens or tweens. The phone itself has a crystal clear sound and you can definitely tell that the ring tone is being delivered through a media player. Functionality is awesome and easy to understand. Resolution on screen is very clear and even the camera (despite being labeled as 1 - 2 mp) produces nice quality pics. The only thing I would caution is to look at the color options in person. The black/purple combo wasn't quite as deep purple as it looked in pictures. In fact, the purple is about the same color purple as the "Sign Out" appears next to your user name when logged into ebay (a little pinkish-purple). But overall, this is a really awesome phone for the price. You can usually find one on ebay right around the $100 mark if you don't want to do a contract renewal to get Verizon's usual price of $59.99 - $79.99 price.
I decided to buy this phone when I realized that I'm doing more text messaging lately and I've been using the old 'tap each number three times' to get the letter that's needed. I've used a Razr since they first came out. I didn't want a smart phone (data plans, you know), but it had to have a qwerty keyboard and it had to have large numbers and good size buttons for this senior's eyes. The Motorola Rival fills the bill quite nicely.
I like the phone very much. The slider works smoothly and the keyboard is exactly what I want. I've owned the phone for about two months now and have had no problems as yet. It does have a sort of semi-touch screen. You have to bring up a virtual phone pad to make phone calls that are not in your contact list, and so far, the touch screen has worked without any hitches.
There are some cons, however. The touch screen aspect is very sensitive and I find myself having to remember to keep from touching certain parts of the phone. Also, the backlight on the qwerty keyboard is not very bright so it is hard to text in dim light. I have to be careful how I 'dial' numbers as well, although I don't use the virtual phone pad very often. These things are just minor concerns to me.
All in all, though, I really like this phone and would recommend it to others!
Well, I wondered how I could get a "new, in the box" cell for such a reasonable price. I believe this phone did not live up to its expectations. The problem seems to lay within the case structure. It fits badly, and will affect what you are doing by just not holding the phone in the right places, or light enough. It has MANY woderful features, and I could love it, if it were built "sound" (eg), writing a message.. if covers tweak, you are totally in another area of the phones features. or... its trying to delete your message, or any of a dozen stupid defaults. I don't send it back, because the seller disclosed what I should have figured out for my self. It didnt sell 'for a reason. (perhaps a dozen). I am not timed for an upgrade at Verizon yet, so am limping along. Is a pretty phone though.. The slide out keyboard is not illuminated well enough to make texting easy, Shame, like I said, it could be a great phone for someone older like I am. But when you have XXX amount to spend, you take what you can get. good or bad. I am living with it and a good sense of humor.Being over 70 means I am not easily able to learn how to operate a smart phone. this was touted as one of the first ones. (wrong!) Thanks for listening. I first decided to purchase this product to be perfectly honest because of the color. I love purple and as we all know this phone comes in a metalic purple. The other thing that sold me on this phone was the slide out qwerty keyboard. My wife has a full touch screen phone and has been trying to get me to purchase one as well. This phone has some touch screen sections that have been slowly getting me use to the whole idea. When the advertisement said you will out thumb your friends they were on point with that. I can't say enough how much I like my new phone and encourage any texting fans to purchase this phone. It's wonderful!!!!!!!!
I bought this phone because i lost my old phone and was looking for a new one with a qwerty keyboard. I had looked at the verizon store and other places like walmart but their cheepest phones were like $200 and those didnt even have keyboards! So when i saw this phone which was exactly what i was looking for (a touch screen phone with a slide out qwerty keyboard) and it only costed $50 i looked into it. after looking into it i foundd out it was a refurbised phone that came with a new battery and a new charger so i bought it. I think refurbished phones are great because you know they have been looked at and fixed to work corectly by a employee so you dont have to worry about it working or not, you know it will. this phone has great sound quality, an easy to use qwerty keyboard, and the touch screen works great. I did not find any mistakes or anything that i didnt like about the phone so i really dont have any complantes. I have had 5 diferent phones and this one is by far the greatest phone i have ever had. so for the cheap price of $50 i would DEFINATLY RECOMEND this phone to anyone who needs a new no contract phone and wants to be satisfied. I THANK the company electonics for less for selling such a cheap great afodable phone!
