I say investment due to the price tag on accessories and games you really have to be careful which ones you choose to purchase. I bought Motorstorm on its release date and have been extremely satisfied with game. As far as graphics and attention to detail go, this game is flawless. When you go over the track your grooves in the mud and changes you make to the environment stay modified. You vehicle takes damage and gets dirty (which was my only complaint about the Gran Tourismo series, you hit a wall doing 150 mph and your car is still showroom condition) I really like that they combined different types of vehicles and that they all have distinctly different characteristics. It allows you to specialize in different vehicles and once you master one you can move onto the next. Going through the game you are forced to experience all vehicles and different combinations of opponents which makes things interesting. The music is fantastic which really makes a difference in a racing game. I also really like the online multiplayer option which is a lot of fun.
Now the bad; I only gave this game four star because it lacks a two player mode which I think is crucial for any racing game. The load time for selecting your vehicle is also a little long (I can deal with this, but it’s still annoying on a brand new $600 system). And there could have been a few more tracks, after you get through the first 2 levels of difficulty it gets a little redundant. I’m glad it took me a while to complete this game because when I tear through a $60 game in a few days I feel cheated.
In summary the graphics, music and game play make this a worthy purchase. Play a few tracks, get the hang out it then go online to really test your skills.
I love this game it is cool and now I see why it is so popular and the best thing is that it is still 59.99 plus tax in the store and I bought it for a total of 20.00 off e-bay and it is brand new in package and sealed never opened man you cant beat that. I do wish it had a 2 player mode instead of of just a single player game. Maybe next time if there is a Motor Storm #2. I bought it so I could race my other family member's on line and kick there butt or try to anyways. I recommend this game if you like off road racing but I would not spend the full price of 59.99 on the game do to it only has one player mode and that it can get a little boring racing on the same track and plus the higher you get in the game even when it is set on easy the computer will not let you win a pulls of amazing bull crap moves on you so there for you cant advance to the next level. You will have to race a few times or a little more to beat the computer when you get up there in the high levels in order to advance. Besides the computer cheating it is a great game and would buy just for the online play.
For those who didn't get this title bundled in with their system, it's definitely worth considering -especially if your library is missing a racing game.
Graphics nicely represent the PS3’s Hi-Def capabilities (720p), features mostly rock music tracks that are original songs by their original artists (a few hip hop and electronic tunes), and there are different terrains and alternate routes on every course to offer you plenty of replay with many different types of vehicles. New courses and vehicles are unlocked as you progress thru challenges.
And it gets better! You can race online against others (up to 12 racers at a time) and you can even download additional add-ons for this game thru the Playstation Store such as more vehicles and more courses. Now that’s an upgrade.
Whether you only have 10 minutes to spare or 10 hours to play, this title is sure to rock you with a quick rush of speed and adrenaline. I found mine on eBay for under $25 w/shipping. That’s almost half off the price from your local video game store at home –and they’re selling you a Used copy!
It’s rated “T” for teens, but I say it works for anyone who wants to race –regardless of age or gender. There are no guns, no blood, or any monsters, just lots of loud engines and mud in your face!
Motorstorm is an exciting and fast paced off-road racing game exclusively for the Playstation 3. This game features nice graphics, fun gameplay, and competitive courses.
The game is set in the Desert at a made up festival. You race several types of vehicles in this game. From dirtbikes and ATVs, through buggies, onto cars and trucks and really large trucks (and semi-trucks as well) , there are plenty of options Each race is set up by a "Card." The more cards you defeat, the more races open up to you. Therein lies the first problem with the game. It lacks a quick play option. There is also no dual screen multiplayer. This game has several courses which are fun (and using different vehicles on them makes them unique as well), and some feature mud, others more dust, and all feature exciting races.
The races themselves are dramatic affairs. You race at high speeds utilizing an accelerator and a boost method. Your boost is temporary, and if it is overloaded, your vehicle will explode. If you crash into other vehicles, parts will fly off, and along the way your vehicle will garner more dust and mud. Crashes are spectacular affairs, as they spray metal all over, oftentimes involve many vehicles, and even drivers go flying from the smaller vehicles.
This game features excellent graphics, a loud soundtrack, and spectacular fun. However, it lacks some depth (with online updates this game gets better), and the lack of a quickplay option is also a problem. Also one must note that the loading times are long for this title. So grab popcorn while waiting to play.
Graphics: Spectacular, and the physics in the game are also well done.
Sound: A VERY loud game by default. The music is good for racing, and the explosion sounds are also good.
Gameplay: The gameplay in this game is the best part. If you own a PS3, download the demo to get a small taste of the fast paced action.
Presentation: This game lacks in some basic features, and has a long loading time as well.
Replay Value: High, with online multiplayer, as well as more options for expansions to the game.
Overall: A 4 out of 5 rating. A good game, but its sequel, coming this year, should surpass it in every aspect. Still, a bargain if you can find it for 30 dollars.

MotorStorm for Playstation 3 remains a gorgeous looking game and really boils down to this: It's an intense racing title with gorgeous graphics, a great variety of vehicles, and a bunch of levels and tracks that all look very similar. I understand that Motor Storm takes place in an undisclosed desert and is an undersground event...but do all the levels have to be sandy gold, gritty orange, and muddy maroon? Don't get me wrong...the different textures and tracks and how different vehicles all handle them is very fun. It's just a shame that all the tracks look so similar. There's actually not many tracks at all which further hampers what could be a fantastic game. It's a great start and a great showcase title for the PS3. It could be a franchise to contend with the next time around. Imagine Motorstorm 2 with grassy levels (with varying muddy batches, high grass, etc.), snow covered and icy terrain levels, new vehicles (snow mobiles, hovercrafts, monster trucks), and a wider selection and variety of tracks. That would be a game to contend with! As it stands now. MotorStorm is a damn good game and a wise choice by Sony to package it with the 80GB PS3.
Graphics: 9/10 - Fantastic but lacking level variety
Gameplay: 9/10 - Vehicle diversity, and terrain strategy make this game visceral fun. Enemy AI is a little bit "let you catch up" or "catch up with you"
Sound/Music: 8/10 - Music fits the tone, explosions and other vehicle engines all add to the atmosphere...sometimes it's all alittle much
Lasting Appeal: 7/10 - The lack of tracks and track variety really hurts the game, but different vehicles and terrain adds to it. After awhile though, everything just is all too sandy and the incentive to unlock the harder mode of the same level you've played already just isn't there.
