|The definitively violent Mortal Kombat fighting game series is re-invented on high-definition consoles in its ninth full production, a plainly titled release that both moves the supernatural combat action forward and returns it to its roots. Rendered in full 3D, the hand-to-hand battles play out strictly on a 2D plane, as in the original Mortal Kombat games for 16-bit consoles, emphasizing keenly timed blocks, counter-moves, and ranged attacks. More so than in any recent Mortal Kombat game, the fighting action is designed for true hardcore players, with each character presenting a deep system of special attacks to master and relative weaknesses to overcome. Each character can also execute a full-fledged fatality move, in classic MK form.|
Leaving aside the inter-dimensional diversions of the most recent Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, the game's unusually involving single-player story begins after the events of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, but then returns to the events of the first three games to revisit the series' original lore. Gaining a trans-temporal awareness, the enigmatic thunder-god Raiden is central to the plot, but gamers take the roles of several different combatants as they progress through the campaign. In all, over two-dozen characters are playable in this edition of Mortal Kombat, each uniquely modeled and individually animated. Multiplayer fighting is thoroughly supported, with both same-console and online options, in a selection of competitive and cooperative modes.
Along with the main game and documentation, the Kollector's Edition of Mortal Kombat comes packaged with book-end figurines of Scorpion and Sub-Zero and a one hundred-plus page book featuring concept sketches and other art associated with the development of the game. In game extras include alternate costumes for the playable characters and a themed costume for online network avatars.

Probably the best fighting game ever!
We are talking about the timeless classic game play of Mortal Kombat with today's graphics.
Add an awesome storyline to the mix with the way-past cool bookend figures, art book and download "kodes" for extra "Kontent" and you're looking at a must-have for any fan and/or gamer.
Makes an ideal gift.
excellent game and the contents are very good ,Figures of Scorpion and Sub-Zero are almost twice bigger than in Euro Edition. The Art of Mortal Kombat (book) is printed on soft glossy paper which is better than in Euro Edition. Overall this edition is a must have item for every Mortal Kombat fan!
Outstanding! The US Kollector's Edition of new Mortal Kombat is definitely better that European Kollector's Edition. Figures of Scorpion and Sub-Zero are almost twice bigger than in Euro Edition. The Art of Mortal Kombat (book) is printed on soft glossy paper which is better than in Euro Edition. Overall this edition is a must have item for every Mortal Kombat fan!
I bought this product because the Kollector's edition (EU version) SUX big time! This one is highly detailed and big in everyway. You get a lot for your money. The only thing that bothers me is that Sony's stupid rule is that the special classic character (region 1) can't be downloaded on my swedish PS3...but I survive.
Anyway, the special edition is highly recomended
Being an old school Mortal Kombat, I was very pleased with this collector's edition pack. The game and art was cool but the winner in my book are the bookends. With other games also having unique and well thought out extras, these bookends are amazing. The detail and concept of them alone are note worthy but unlike some other extras I've seen has a practical use as well. Having Scorpion spearing Subzero through all my video games is far cooler than holding a mockup gun with LEDs. Just love the idea and the figures are outstanding. Must have for your collection, or if your games are spilling all over your room.
