Movie synopsis
The critically acclaimed, Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning MONK finally gave talented character actor Tony Shalhoub a chance to shine. Shalhoub's performance as the mentally unstable title character contains just the right mix of pathos and perfect comic timing, earning him an Emmy and a Golden Globe for the role. Adrian Monk (Shalhoub) is San Francisco's most brilliant detective, but is unable to serve on the police force because of his crippling neuroses and obsessive-compulsive disorder. However, he continues his investigations independently, often solving cases before the actual police are able to do so, and always seeking out clues to the unsolved murder of his wife. The combination of comedy, mystery, and a distinctively eccentric character have led many to dub MONK the successor to COLUMBO. This release includes the entire fifth season of the show, with episodes featuring guest stars such as Stanley Tucci, Sean Astin, Chi McBride, and Sharon Lawrence. This set also features both black-and-white and color versions of neo-noir episode "Mr. Monk and the Leper."

Monk Season 5

Review For: Monk - Season 5 (DVD, 2007, 4-Disc Set)

ok, Here's the thing.............
this show is a rare gem combining superb writing and fabulous execution by an unselfish cast. Tony Shaloub portrays a textbook case of obsessive compulsive behavior in a detective who misses nothing. He is a fun combination of Sherlock Holmes, Nero Wolfe, and Columbo. I can't decide who was the better assistant, Sharona or Natalie? Randy Disher is in a class by himself. Check out Ted Levine in any of his past successes (Fast and the Furious, American Gangster, Moby Dick).
The recent loss of Stanley Kamel (Monk's psychiatrist, Dr. Charles Kroger) will leave a void that I fear will cause the show to cease. But Tony Shaloub is that kind of talent that will succeed at anything he attempts (remember the movie "Paulie"?).
My favorite episode is "Panic Room"(Season 3). The scene in which Capt. Stottlemeyer interrogates the monkey is a gut splitter.
The best episode of season 5 is "Mr. Monk and the Actor". Here, Stanley Tucci is an actor portraying Monk himself. You MUST SEE IT for yourself.
I highly recommend MONK just for the fun of it.
"It's a gift, .....and a curse".
Thank you, Tony Shaloub, for the best show on TV.

Always fun

Review For: Monk - Season 5 (DVD, 2007, 4-Disc Set)

Our family loves the Monk series. We do not get television reception because there's too much naughty on t.v. these days and we have a house full of teenagers. So we buy series of appropriate television shows and this is definitely one of them. The main actor does an excellent job. This would be an easy character to "overplay" but he does it just right. We love Stuttlemeyer and Disher too. Great characters and fun plots. Sure, sometimes the solving of the crimes is unrealistic but we watch these to be entertained and they do the job.

Best TV series ever

Review For: Monk - Season 5 (DVD, 2007, 4-Disc Set)

Monk is the best. This show has a heart bigger tha any other TV series I have ever seen and I'm a senior citizen. The mix of characters, mystery, drama, and humor are impossibe to beat. The only other TV serires I can think of that even comes close is M.A.S.H. Lovable people with super dialogue. Add a murder mystery that is difficult to solve and you have a winner. MONK Rocks!!

good tv series

Review For: Monk - Season 5 (DVD, 2007, 4-Disc Set)

If you like tv shows that involve detective investigative work, kindof like Matlock or Diagnosis Murder etc then you would definetly like this show. It is about an investigator that is Obsessive Compulsive but it really does not prevent him from doing outstanding investigative work, it merely address a comical twist to the show. Hope this helps

Monk - Season 5

Review For: Monk - Season 5 (DVD, 2007, 4-Disc Set)

Huge Monk fan as is my 16 year old grandson, so refreshing to have a program that is not filled with violence, sex and profanity. Comedy and drama combined.
So sorry to read that Tony Shalhoub is leaving after season 8.
