Research and writing consist many aspects of writing inside research papers. 2nd edition, Joseph Gibaldi & Walter S. Achtert authors, 1984 edition.

6 main parts of the book (6 chapters)= Research and Writing, Mechanics of Writing, Format of the Research Paper, Preparing the List of Works Cited, Documenting Sources, Abbreviations and Reference Words also Sample Pages of a Research Paper & Index.

I rated 4**** because inside one last part in book (Sample Pages of a Research Paper) there should have been a few samples and not just one. You get a better idea when you get to see more than one sample, I think all would agree on this. The mechanics of any sample paper is the key to success and beyond, you can't learn if you don't have the tools to learn.

Now the middles of each chapter I will list a few to give you an idea on what to expect from book:

Selecting a topic, plagiarism, writing drafts, spelling, punctuation, numbers, margins, titles in a research paper, corrections and insertions, tables and illustrations, quotations, many sample entries on issues, publisher's names, religious works, using notes or documentation, what to document, sample references, heading and spacing, outlining, languages other than English, binding, arrangment and placement & more to cover inside book.

Great little book packed with ionformation. I also rated 4**** because the book has a condensed feeling after you read the book for the first time.

The Indispensible Resouce

Writing a review of The MLA Handbook is like reviewing the US Constitution; how do you offer a critique of the supreme guidance for research papers or of the supreme law of the land? I got my first "MLA Style Sheet"-(It was sixteen pages then) as a high school senior in 1967 and I have had three since. With the changes in resources and Internet citation, I'd be lost without it.

Great Resource!

The MLA Handbook is a very useful writing instruction manual - the best available. The handbook is straight-forward and clear-cut making writing research papers, formal letters, citations, a smooth and swift task. It is a trustworthy handbook that can help with all of my papers and is something I will hold onto for a long, long time!

It really helped me write my research papers for school. I don't know if I would have done as well without it. It is a must for all high school and undergraduate writing students.

Mandatory for Professional Writers

The book is necessary for anyone who does academic research and writing. Contents are well organized and clearly understood. I am a professional writer who uses MLA, APA, etc.
