I absolutely love this driver! I crushed the ball, murdered it, annihilated it, destroyed it, and then some! I've always hit the ball pretty long...used to average around 300. I swear, every single drive the last time I played (first time I used this club) the ball went at least 325 in the air. I think every par 4 I had less than 100 yards to the green...and several 15 yard chips to the green! I used to use a Titleist 975D 7.5 degree stiff shaft driver...so I was used to low spin and trajectory. I bought this MP 630 in a 9.5 degree, stiff shaft, it goes higher than my old titleist and farther. But, since I really didn't need the extra distance, my favorite part about this club is how CONSISTENT it was for me. Maybe it's just the extra two degrees that I got from 7.5 to 9.5...but almost every drive went down the middle or a slight power fade. I only missed two fairways with this club!
The driver is set up pretty straight - not offset like some today - I can't stand offset clubs. It's easy to draw when you need to or fade it when you need to - very versatile. I have not tried hitting it off the deck yet...probably because I haven't played a course where I couldn't reach a green in two yet with this club.
Also - it sounds great! It sounds like it is very solid when striking the ball....not that ridiculously annoying sound that some poorly made hollow clubs sound. The sound reminded me of my old solid titleist...just a little louder because it is still hollow.
I had also recently purchased and tried out a Taylor Made R7 - it was about the same size, shape, degree, etc as this club...but it felt empty to me. I'd hit it and it makes an awfully loud annoying sound, and it just feels like it's not capturing all of my swing like this mizuno mp 630 does. I also tried out one of the newer Titleists...forget the exact type (but it was at a golf shop in summer 2010) and I hit it pretty good at the screen indoors, but not as good as the mizuno...plus the mizuno sounded better and felt stronger than the titleist...so I made the switch and love it!!
If you like to GRIP IT AND RIP IT....this is the club you need in your bag! I might buy a couple back up's just in case they vanish off eBay and I break mine from swinging like a maniac :)
I purchased this driver as more of an experiment than anything else. It did not disappoint as I found drives seem to shoot off of the face, carry is nice and long, and the feel is typical Mizuno.
- Driver has a great feel
- Shaft is solid - not typical OEM version
- Classic style very appealing at address
- Great distance
- Easy to hit
- Muffled sound at impact
- Shaft color is a bright white
- Head is not max size at only 445cc
This driver really is a pleasure to hit. Even though the sound is slightly muffled there is no lack of distance or accuracy. The weight of the head is almost perfect and allows you to truly know where the head and face are - making it a whole lot easier to bring the club to the right position at impact.
If the driver has any pitfall it is the extremely bright white shaft. The shaft is so white in fact that, because of the dark color of the head, it is somewhat blinding in the right sunlight circumstances.
This is a typical high quality product from a name known for making the best. Even though it is not two year old technology this only means that there are bargains to be had, not that it is outdated. I am keeping mine and enjoy seeing how the ball flys off of the face and almost always goes in the exact direction I intended. When you find a driver that does that for you, better bag it!
All I can say is WOW! Hit it for the first time today and KILLLLED it! Hit one drive 350 yards, another 310 into a head wind and drove a par 4 335 yards. If you have a problem with high ball spin off your driver, this is the club built for you! If you tend to hit the ball low already I would buy a 10.5* driver. Mine is a 9.5* with the fubuki shaft stiff. Great buy!
Club has a very flat ball flight with low spin so if your in the market for one go up maybe one degree in loft than your normal driver.
