I bought this book to complete my library of Stephen King's writings. He is one of my all time favorite authors.
It took me less than five hours to read this book.
Paul Sheldon is a best selling novelist and is involved in a motor vehicle accident in which his most avid fan Annie Wilkes finds him.
Annie Wilkes takes Paul Sheldon to her home where she heavily medicates him with medications that she has at her home. Once Annie Wilkes finishes reading his book Misery she goes bezerk because Paul Sheldon killed off the Misery character in his book.
Paul Sheldon is forced to write the return of Misery and has found himself in a fight for his life. Annie Wilkes is not mentally stable and does some of the most unthinkable things to him to keep him from escaping her home.
You must read the book from beginning to end without putting the book down. Every page holds your attention and captivates you. You can wait to get to the end of the book to see how it all will end.
I don't believe that Misery was quite the Stephen King I expected. The story basically has only 2 main characters. Paul Sheldon, author and victim, and Annie, #1 fan and nurse. This makes it very easy to follow.
Paul, has to bring Misery back to life just before she is to be buried. The way King writes this part and tells her story, is Brilliant.
As for the way the book was written. You could basically figure out what was going to happen way before the end of the book. This was not the suspense that I was expecting from such a great writer.
The book overall kept you wanting more but the suspense was not there.
I absolutely love this book because it's not one of Stephen King's "fantasy" novels. It's more realistic than some of his other sci-fi thrillers. I'm not much of a reader, but this book keeps your attention the whole way through and I would highly recommend it to anyone!
This book is even better than the movie, and the movie was very good.
It's hard to put it down once I start reading.
It's so well written, that you feel as if you were right there in the room with the main character, Paul Sheldon.
I highly recommend this book to those who enjoy Stephen King novels.
Stephen King is 2nd on my list of all time greatest authors ( First is Dean Koontz ), I just wish he could write a book a week, Then I wouldnt have to keep waiting for the next one to come out. Im not going to go into details about the book as if you are like me, I prefer to not know anything untill I start reading about it in the book, I have read most of his books so far and I love them all.
So as you can probably guess from what I wrote above, I highly Recomend this book.
This book was made into a film starring James Caan
