Beautiful concept and design, true to game, lifelike.

The Xbox 360 limited edition console comes with the new sleek design sporting sounds on both the power button and the disk tray which are touch activated. The software of the console is identical to any regular Xbox 360; also note ejecting the disk tray or powering on or off via the controller do not make use of the sound effects. Every unit has individual codes on its case. The case is stronger than most and for the most part is very fingerprint resistant except for of course the chrome accents. Also it is painted instead of being a case sticker like you can buy for a console or a mobile phone so it is much stronger, longer lasting, and will not dry out and peel over time. The controllers follow the same paint and numbering scheme which also seem very resistant to fading or fingerprints. Bundled with the package are also three Xbox Live redeemable freebies; a select free Halo movie download, Recon Helmet upgrade, and multiplayer elite armor with an accessory for your avatar. The internal Wi-Fi N makes getting to and enjoying the Xbox Live features a breeze. One recommendation is to pick up a better AV cable as the packaged AV cable is old school composite. While this will work with almost any TV you will be limited to standard definition. Options include HDMI (direct port included), VGA, S-video, and component so chose what’s best for you and your television situation. There is also a digital audio output for those whom have a stereo system to hook it to. Another purchase recommendation is a battery pack system for the controllers. Yes, the controllers do have a long battery life, but eventually you will get tired of spending money and time replacing batteries. All in all this is a wonderful, sleek, edgy console which is a must for any Halo buff. In my opinion it trumps any previous Halo themed console in both feel and form. If you aren't worried about fingerprints or if looks are not your primary concern you may want to weigh your options on a different new generation 360 console. The gains here are mainly that, although the bundle does come with alot of bang for its buck. Bundled together are the console and all you need to run it, two themed controllers, the maximum current 360 hard drive offering (250GB), the Halo Reach game, one headset, and a few unlockables. It is hard to beat. Right now, I wouldn't own any other 360. Never have I seen such a clean console with such great design. If you are looking for one, I would recommend thinking seriously about getting one now. The fresh ones are disappearing fast. Only very few more will appear from the back of storerooms, storage centers, or misplaced shipments. Once they are all gone, I can almost guarantee they will stay gone for quite a while until collectors start selling them off for profits years down the line. You better run!

250GB XBOX Slim is a must have!

This review is to focus on the differences that are not on a "standard" XBOX 360 Arcade and the "former" Elite, and rate the system as a new purchase, not an upgrade or replacement to your current XBOX 360, but overall.

When the XBOX Slim was first announced @ E3 2010, this was the most significant upgrade to the XBOX 360 platform since the update of the Elite. With an initial release price tag of $299 – the new Slim model includes many updates that may entice a buyer to upgrade, or choose this model over the previous model. These items include:

• HDMI and optical audio output
• 250GB internal hard drive
• Integrated wireless adapter with N wireless capability
• Kinect Ready (Microsoft Motion Hardware)
• Slimmer model with lower power consumption
• Sleek black body housing with touch sensitive DVD and Power “buttons”
• 5 USB ports

Almost everything about the classic Xbox 360 in white has changed with the announcement of the Slim: It runs cooler, quieter, and shiny, sexy new black. The increased venting on the side of the XBOX and the one larger fan make this thing run cool. This thing won't "red ring" because the XBOX now has an automatic shutoff to prevent overheating. The bad things that have changed are that the XBOX Slim does not come with a component cable (standard AV only), no Ethernet cable, no real extras – just bare bones.

There is a new 45-nanometer (Valhalla) chip designed with integrated CPU and GPU. The redesigned chip improves energy consumption by as much as half from the originally released XBOX, and this is the reason it makes it run quieter, and it decreases the size. In terms of processing power, there isn’t much difference. Also, this console will of course be backwards compatible with all existing Xbox 360 titles, but one thing missing is a slot for the memory cards that were specific to the original 360s. However, you can use your USB drive to transfer data or take your profile with you on the go.

Don't let the black slick body distract you; the only thing you need to ask is if it improves the performance quality - and after many reviews and hours using this machine, the answer is YES. This thing is so quiet, and slick, that the form factor and performance make it worth the money. Compared to the Arcade or the XBOX Elite's noise level – you will notice the lack of sound when you power this thing on. The 250GB hard drive upgrade is nice for all that downloadable content that you have been picking up on the market place.

Should you buy it?

Guys like me who are gamers and video geeks? Ya, this is for you. The fact that all that video and audio is being piped through a HDMI/optical output is a bonus, that the wireless (with N) is integrated, and the increased hard drive space, not to mention Kinect Ready – this is a significant upgrade. Also, this is so much cooler and quieter, that alone makes it worth the upgrade.

Final Verdict: BUY IT

Pros:
• Same price as the previous Elite Model, but with a 250GB Hard Drive
• Sleek design and styling
• Smaller, cooler operation than the original
• It is significantly quieter
• Built in WiFi (with N)

Cons:
• Hard Drive change can make it difficult to take your content with you
• Odd way to remove the hard drive (could potentially cause problems)
• No HD (HDMI or Component) cables without additional purchase
• No Blu-ray player
• The fancy shine is easily smudged with fingerprints

My son loves it!

My son had the standard white 360 that had been in repair a total of 4 times. This last time, it would not give him the RROD so that the console would be covered by the warranty. It was getting close to his 18th birthday so I decided to purchase him a new XBox. He initially wanted the black slim 250GB edition and as I was looking for that, I found this limited edition Halo. Knowing that he loves Halo, I bid and won this one for him. It is a more sleek and slim XBox and runs practically silent all the time. I like that it came with 2 controllers instead of just one and that the controllers are "special edition" as well. The sounds it makes at start up and shut down (as well as when the drawer opens) thrills him time and time again. The processor runs much faster and downloads are quicker than before. The built in Wi-Fi is wonderful since there are no cables running to the router nor do you have to purchase the $99 Wi-Fi "catcher" that was needed for the original 360. He loves it and enjoys many hours of game play that runs faster (not laggy) and loads quicker.

New features at a great price!

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

The xbox 360 slim with 4 GB. is what the original arcade version should have been, and is definitely worth its $200 price tag.
10 new features of this model are:
1. New Valhalla chip - hopefully improved design to prevent RRoD issue, but tech. reviews noted that the Jasper chip in the older Elite model runs cooler
2. WiFi N - this is the newest wifi standard that is 12X faster (up to 600 Mbits/ sec) than wifi G; you'll need a Wifi N router to get the max. speed
3. digital optical audio port (if your sound system is separate from your TV, then you'll need this to get full 5.1 surround sound)
4. 4 GB of flash memory (although 1.1 GB is used by the game system, but 0.3 GB can be reclaimed by deleting 4 game demos)
5. 5 USB ports (2 in front & 3 in back)
6. slimmer design with side vents (to prevent overheating)
7. dedicated Kinect port (just a convenience feature)
8. only 1 year of warranty (the only negative; older Elite models had 3 yrs.)
9. USB flash drive support (this was a xbox software update released in April 2010)
10. ESPN video streaming (will be included if you are a Gold member, $50/ yr.; should be available about Dec. 2010)

Slim 4 GB vs. 250 GB hard drive:
I bought the 4 GB system over the model with 250 GB hard drive because the xbox now supports game saves/ installs/ downloads and pic/ audio/ video downloads to USB flash drives. It supports 1-2 USB flash drives with 1-16 GB memory (using a 16 GB drive, 1.6 GB is used for formatting). Saving games and media to the USB drives is recommended since loading games and media will be much faster (reading memory is faster than reading hard drive) and more reliable (flash memory rarely fails, unlike hard drives); even the xbox live director recommended using USB drives for storage. If you have such a huge appetite for videos downloads and game demos that 32 GB can not accomodate, then you can always upgrade later with the 250 GB hard drive that will be sold in November; note that the older xbox hard drives are NOT compatible with the slim models. Installing xbox 360 games and game demos on the flash drives is no problem; xbox will ask you which drive to install the game. However, I can not verify if you can install older xbox games like Halo on the flash drive. The only xbox game I have is Halo 2, which does not install on flash. This problem may be specific to Halo 2 because even xbox live does not have Halo 2 for sale, which means Halo 2 is not supported without a xbox hard drive. I'm suspecting that any older games listed on xbox live is enabled for flash installation, but if they're not listed then you'll need a xbox hard drive. This is annoying but not a big issue since there are only a few older xbox games that you may want to play.

XBOX vs. PS3:
I am originally a PS3 and Wii gamer, but finally bought the xbox when the slim 4 GB model was released. To be competitive with the PS3, the xbox had to have the built-in wifi, optical audio port, and USB flash drive support. I was deciding whether to buy another PS3 for $300 since many games require 2 consoles for coop and multiplayer gaming, regardless of what system you choose. With this xbox priced at $200, I decided to choose the xbox since it has better coop games, more online gaming, and their video library blows away the PS3 online videos. However, Netflix on xbox requires gold membership and starting a movie is a lot slower than the PS3 eventhough the xbox has faster wifi. Xbox music and music videos library needs to expand to
