My old XBOX 360 had a malfunctioning Optical Drive (Disk tray), and I didn't want to pay someone to fix it or have to pay an arm and a leg for a new XBOX, so I just bought the Core System. I have no problems with it. Everything works just fine. All I had to do was transfer my Hard Drive and plug in the cords/cables, and after getting my internet connection set up, I was back online playing with my friends.
Seriously, I only paid $30 for a replacement. Microsoft wanted to charge me over $100 for a replacement. I got a good deal.
It's an ok system, I still wouldn't say it's as good as PS3. The HD in 1080i doesn't look good at all, and it sounds like a jet engine when I turn it on, I truely do have trouble hearing the game, and I don't like having the TV super loud, especially not to drown out noise. The exclusives are ok I guess, but not worthy of the praise they get. Halo 1, 2, and 3 - including Reach and ODST - are very repetitive and the story on all of them is horrible in my opinion (Religious aliens?). I guess the fact that you can constantly see a ring above you is cool, but other than that, doing nothing but clearing room after room - having each room look similar to one before it - and re-using the same weapons over and over, isn't quite as fun as people say it is. Gears of war 1 is ok. Once again, not ground-breaking, but it is a good game. One of the games I've yet to play on this system is Alan Wake, which seems to be pretty decent, along with Mass Effect. I plan on getting them soon, hopefully, I won't be wasting my money. Not to mention that I don't have a wired connection in the entertainment room, so I can only connect to Xbox Live using a bridged connection through my laptop (I am NOT paying $100 for wifi!). All in all, I'll cut it short by saying that I could not imagine paying full price for this system, a system that may get the RROD any day now, the only reason I bought this was because a) It was cheap, and b) I wanted to have all three of the 7th generation home consoles. I don't think it would be incredulous to say that the slim is not worth it either, all you get is built-in wifi and less noise, but honestly, because those aren't the only major problems I have with the system, the slim still isn't worth $199 or anything above that.
firstly, I would have given the 360 pro a 5 star rating had the new 360 slim recently not come out (in effect the 360 slim is the console we should have had all along). Microsoft are a huge company we all know that, and they entered the fray of videogaming with the first xbox, then continued with the 360. The games on the 360, just like any console, are a mix of good and not so good, but there is a MUCH higher percentage of extremely good games on the 360 than ANY other console. It did not take as long to come to terms with programming as the ps3, and although the ps3 does have a built in bluray, sonys live service doesnt even come close............and lets not forget that many movies streamed on the 360's live service through netflix are now full HD. The recent inclusion of kinect has kept the 360 fresh and up to the mark on the latest technology. For my money..........this is the greatest console ever made. Bar none.
The Xbox 360 everyone wants one and i am but one of many who has always wanted a 360 but never wanted to pay the steep prices so i bought one with a broken dvd drive and decided to fix it and this was a excellent decision, in fact that I got an almost new 360 for less than 40 dollars fully functional my only problem with the 360 is the reliability, with a 50% failure rate someone at microsoft needs to be canned, me being a gamer simply cannot have to hold my breath that it will work everytime i push the power button that is why i switched to ps3 this xbox has had e74 3 times and rrod twice ( the ironic part being the only part that was ever messed with is the only part that works) so from a reliability standpoint this system fails miserably short of the ps3 but everywhere else it excels (i use the ps3 mostly because i push power and never fail it works!) so if you are a gamer that enjoys putting your system in a box and sending microsoft $100 every week then by all means get a 360 but if you want a system that you get to play get a ps3
This X Box 360 Core System is a great deal for the money. Plenty of games/ contebt available worldwide. So no one should lack for entertainment. And paired with NetFlix this system will play movies till your eyes hurt. Of course a high speed internet connection is necseeary, And a subscription to X Box Live Gold account which is around $10,00 a month or cheaper if you purchase by the year. ENJOY, WE ARE!!
