Whereas prior releases like UMMAGUMMA and ATOM HEART MOTHER announced the presence of new singer/guitarist/songwriter David Gilmour, MEDDLE represents the band's Gilmour-influenced evolution toward a sleek, epic, spacey sound. In "Echoes," an ambitious 23-minute soundscape, the pinging of a synthesizer greets the listener before Gilmour's warm, open guitar and gentle crooning gives way to a repetitious, workmanlike rhythm. From here, the music fades into an abyss of whale calls and eerie sonic reverberations.Elsewhere, Floyd dabbles with straightforward cocktail-hour jazz ("San Tropez") and a twisted slow blues ("Seamus"). But it is "One of These Days," MEDDLE's opening track and lone radio staple, that truly previews things to come. Roger Waters's bass, played through a Binson echo unit, establishes the song's manically hypnotic groove, as Richard Wright's synthesizer bursts in and out, Nick Mason's off-kilter drum fills get tossed around, and Gilmour's guitar dive-bombs through it all. These varied sound effects, packaged in a song that clocked in at less than six minutes, were a precedent for the masterpiece that was two years away: DARK SIDE OF THE MOON.

PT-Cruzer reviews Pink Floyd Meddle CD.

Pink Floyd's Meddle was arguably the best work of the bands career up to that point, and was an extremely well balanced and focused album, which was released just after the soundtrack to the French movie Obscured By Clouds.
That music flowed beautifully, but was conceptual, and folowed the particular guidelines of the producer of that film.

Meddle, however, stands alone and apart from that work, displaying the ever-growing musical talents of the band, and the songwriting abilities of Roger Waters.

I bought this particular CD, as it was offered by a seller who just happened to be selling the DVD of the Syd Barrett Story, (which I also bought)who was the founding member of the group, and had just recently died at age 60, which prompted me to begin a Pink Floyd retrospective, buying books, video, and music to help me to re-visit the amazing career of this remarkable band.

Meddle contains beautiful music through-out, and I particularly love the song Fearless for the dynamic chord progression, and the powerful lyrics. That song, alone, was probably the main reason I wanted this CD. That, and the fact that it filled a particular niche in my collection, as I last owned this on Vinyl!

The ONLY thing which I dislike about this particular CD, is what I consider the weakest part, musically, which is the song Seamus, a Blues track accompanied by the howling of the dog Seamus.

Another small gripe is that the cover artwork is darker than the origional, and not well defined, which leads me to suspect that it may be a copy.

Meddle in this album

Classic. An experience of Auditory delight. Mood enhancing.

This is a great studio album
There is a continuity of thoughts and ideas.
The Sound of the band is neat and precise.
The Track order is perfect.

Does anybody make albums like this anymore? They don't need to because Pink Floyd Meddle is the real deal. Better than Animals, The Wall, and the rest. I would rate them like this:

1. Dark Side
2. Wish you were here
3. Meddle It's really that good
Best track: Fearless-Wish you were here type ballad with groove

Buy it or miss out and listen to Hey You for the Millionth time!

Meddle--Pink Floyd

A transition album from the Syd Barret influence in my opinion one of the three strongest lp's of their early era (Saucerful of Secrets and Atom Heart Mother)highlighting Roger Waters and David Gilmour's style and getting more synth sound especially on "Echoes".
As with most vinyl after all the years of playing it is time to replace.

One of my favorite Pink Floyd CDs of all time!

This album is one of Pink Floyd's greatest, in my opinion. From the bass riff of One Of These Days to the outer space feeling of Echoes, this CD will definitely have a sound for every Pink Floyd fan. A very underrated album, this a must get for all you Pink Floyd fans out there!

Meddle by Pink Floyd

What can you say, this is Pink floyd!!! No disrespect meant to the Syd era, but this is the begining of what was to come, from one of the Greatest bands of all time(not just rock bands)! This album was to be a prelude of what was to come.To me all Pink Floyd is great, they reflect the times when they were made. This was where all the jam sessions started to show the merging of their independant skills.A must have for any Music lover!
