| Matilda is a genius. Unfortunately, her family treats her like a dolt. Her crooked car-salesman father and loud, bingo-obsessed mother think Matilda's only talent is as a scapegoat for everything that goes wrong in their miserable lives. But it's not long before the sweet and sensitive child decides to fight back. Faced with practical jokes of sheer brilliance, her parents don't stand a chance. Book jacket. | |

It's a tough task trying to entice young children to actually read a book in these high tech times. MATILDA by the wonderful Children's Writer, Roald Dahl, did it for my 7-year old granddaughter. After watching the movie together, I thought she might enjoy using printed words and her own imagination to re-create the story in her mind. She loved the book. Couldn't put it down once she started reading. She was thrilled to be able to read a "chapter book" instead of a picture book and looks forward to reading more works from Dahl and others.
My 5 year old read this at kindergarten and fell in love with it. Wonderful story with humor and sweetness all in one. Think this is a great book for children of all ages though. We added it to our library in a heartbeat!
I have custody of two of my grandchildren, and we have watched the movie "Matilda" and I thought it would be nice to read the story to them also. I don't read it exactly as written because some of the phrases and words are a little harsh for their young minds. But they still enjoy the gist of the story. I would invite any 8 to 10 year-old to read this book.
I love this book... All my students from 7th grade read this book in Literature class... I did buy it in English so I want to know if there is any diference between English and Spanish... This book is highly recommended for kids... It has a lot to teach and if parent read it and share it with the kids it is going to be better...
I wanted to buy the older edition as this was what I grew up reading. Liked the size of the book, but not the paper cover around the hard cover.
