|The heroism of one brave human being could have a massive effect on the entire galaxy, in this original sci-fi RPG from Bioware. Players take the customizable role of a celebrated starship captain, who is exploring the fringes of known space when the story begins. Mass Effect is set soon after human beings have discovered the secrets to interstellar travel, and the people of Earth were both surprised and challenged to find that the universe is full of intelligent races that are far more advanced than they. However, it may very well be those human ties to a more primal nature that ultimately save all the space-faring species from destruction.|
Built on a third-generation version of the Unreal game engine, Mass Effect features real-time combat, in which players take limited command of a three-soldier squad. Decisions made by the hero, both in the heat of battle and in sophisticated role-playing sequences, will affect many details and may even influence the final outcome of the plot. Mass Effect is intended as the first of a trilogy of Xbox 360 games from BioWare. Between the launches of each full game in the series, the developer intends to release additional levels, side-stories, and other Mass Effect material through the Xbox Live service.
This collector's edition includes a 36-page guide to the Mass Effect universe, an art book, and a bonus DVD.

Did you ever play Knights of the old republic? one ot two... Neverwinter Nights? one or two... Well this game is written by those same geniuses at bioware. The company that currently is working on an online RPG I am sure of grand proportions. It follows a period of time in the hopefully not to distant future of commander Shepard... now in the beginning you get to choice not only if Commander Shepard is Female or male but what he or she will look like throughout this epic story/movie! I could write all day, but the creation alone will take you a good hour if you wanna make sure you get all the details of your characters facial expression down to the letter! From there you explore the galaxy. From the moon of earth to the farthest reaches of known space. As you work your way into the galactic center & become a spector! From there its up to you how you save the universe, take it over & plunge it deep into darkness. a 12 out of 10 for this deep & emersion vision of mankind future! I am 40, my son is 14 & my youngest son is 7, apart from some deep conversations & a romantic interest my youngest loves this game! My 14 year old can't put it down & neither can I... Buy it. You won't regret it & unlike Halo 3 this game will last you more then a day!
+ A game that plays like an epic movie!!!
+ Nice fire fights with cool weapons and powers to build up.
+ A huge universe to explore. This game may just consume you.
+ Beautiful visuals and an epic musical score.
- Your character cannot attain further special skills after your career has been chosen. (I played for 4 hours before I realized I would have to start over before I could get a sniper rifle. And I lost my telepathic powers when I chose the career with the sniper rifle. Why couldn't I have both???)
- There are some control issues, especially during combat. (Hard to get up against the wall sometimes.)
- Loading screens and elevators may get on your nerves quite a bit.
This is the game people have been waiting for. Even if you don't play it, it still pushes the envelope on how far games can go with the story, the interaction, actually becoming part of a video game universe, never having to play the same way twice. And it's only part one of three. Gosh!!!
It's definately a must play. I don't know about a must buy. This will take a big chunk of your time, a big chunk of your life actually. You decide!!! Good luck Shepard!!!
I'll be honest I first bought this game on a whim. I didn't really have that high of expectations for it. I'm under the impression that an RPG cannot be done well with real time fights. Mass Effect proved me wrong. I can't get enough of this game. The fights play out in real time, but you can approach it just like a 3rd person shooter. You take cover, peak out and take the enemy down. This is saying nothing about the plethora of tech abilities and biotic powers that are at your disposal. These add an insane amount of possibilities to the already solid fighting. The beauty of it is that it's up to you how you want to play it. My first time through I used the soldier class and just blasted my way through anybody or thing that stood in my way. On my return trip to the Mass Effect universe I started a new character to experiment with the techs and biotics. They were just like icing on an already delicious cake. I haven't even begun to touch on the story. It is hands down, in my humble opinion, the greatest story ever told in a game. Through out the game you're given choices. These choices can affect the story in many different ways. I find it quite refreshing that you, the player, actually have the power to change the universe around you. Some will argue that you don't have that much impact on what actually happens in the end, but just the fact that your actions carry weight is a very nice touch. I don't want to delve too deep into the story for fear of ruining any of it. You just have to take my word for it. The story is absolutely epic in scale. I'm really not sure what else to say to try and convince you to check Mass Effect out. You won't be dissapointed.
The limited collector's edition of Mass Effect is a must-have for anyone who loves Mass Effect or just like RPGs.
The bonus dvd includes extra gamer pics for your gamer profile and Mass Effect themes for your dashboard on the 360. Watching the "making of" was really enjoyable and worthwhile.
You can also listen to the soundtrack on the bonus dvd. Unfortunately, you can't move them to media for further playing. If you like the soundtrack as much as I did, it's worth buying.
There were no changes to gameplay, but it was still great as ever. If you like Mass Effect, the Limited Collector's Edition is a MUST-HAVE!!! If you just like RPGs in general, there's no way you couldn't love this game. Mass Effect is pinnacle for present day RPGs.
Mass Effect became one of my favorite RPG video game for a console, once it expanded the traditional gameplay of a one based world, to a broad exploration of different and numerous, worlds to explore and play.
Even further, they have jumped a big line by adding a romantic history to the game which was broadly talked about in the media. Allowing other developers to tap in the same direction, avoiding the industries taboo conserning sex, and come up with similar products.
I recommend that anyone how wants to acquire this game, to buy the limited edition option; is not only a great collection package of the game but a real investment.
