Old-School Brawl Gone Right... Still Kicks Butt!!!

Created: 03/17/09
Have you ever noticed how every time you look at the reviews for a game at certain game sites, you see how the reviewer's scores are almost all the same except for a few ''weird'' ones? Someone gave the abysmal Superman 64 an 8/10? Someone gave the awesome Zelda: Link's Awakening a 1/10? Typically, I am part of the norm when it comes to my scores. But, strangely, I am the only one (as of the rest who love this game) to truly feel that Marvel vs. Capcom deserves a perfect score.

Now, we've all played the arcade version of this game, right? I myself have spent a helluva lot of cash playing this game, and I have loved every minute of it. There was something about the frantic tag action that was so... perfect. Now, this game is based of the PlayStation version, and I'm happy to say that while it isn't arcade-perfect, it is no less fun.

Graphics: 10/10
What were you expecting? The style of the art makes you feel like you are watching a cartoon. The animation is fluid and only a few frames of animation were lost from the arcade. But I give no attention to frames of animation; I give attention to game play, which I'll get to later.

Sound FX: 8/10
As far as I know, all the yells, hits, and grunts from the arcade is here, from Ryu's ''Hadoken!'' to War Machine's ''Shoulder Cannon!'' Unfortunately, everything sounds a bit muffled, as if it was recorded through a pillow. (Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating there)

Music: 9/10
Same as above. All the catchy battle tunes from the arcade are here, but they are a bit muffled.

Game Play: 10/10
2-D fighting at its best! The fighting is fast and frantic and will keep your playing for days. All the characters and commands from the arcade are here, with the only thing not being retained from the coin-op is the ability to switch fighters at will. The control is perfect (once you learn the button commands) and multiplayer is a blast!

Rent/Buy?
BUY. That's all I have to say. I got mine from Ebay and I do not regret it. Of course, if you want arcade pefect, I've heard the Dreamcast version is good. But then again, Dreamcast doesn't have enough quality titles to make it worth the $99.

Pros
- THE AWESOME ARCADE HIT IS FINALLY HOME!
- Excellent graphics
- Simple control
- Same addictive arcade gameplay

Cons
- Not arcade-perfect (but who cares?)
- Slightly muffled audio

Bottom Line
This is proof that a game doesn't have to be arcade-perfect to be fun.

Love Marvel vs. Capcom 2? You'll love this game too!

Review For: Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes (Sega Dreamcast, 1999)
Pros:

- Fast paced
- Flashy super moves
- 2 characters per team, 3rd characters acts as assist only
- The team hyper moves are actually a bit better than in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 in my opinion.
- Combo system allows for many consecutive hits
- Colorful levels; more comic book looking than Marvel vs. Capcom 2
- 6 different characters to unlock
- Great cast of characters
- Will keep you entertained for hours, day, weeks, and possibly even months.
- Two player mode will keep you entertained for years!
- The Dreamcast version of this game is much better than the PlayStation version. They removed tag team fighting from the PlayStation version due to its memory limitation. That takes a lot of fun out of the game.

Cons:

- If any, it would be for there to be more characters. Considering when it was released, it does have a very large character line-up.

retro-flashback

I bought this game having owned it previously some years ago. I had tried bidding on other copies up for sale, but was not successful. I love the fact this game is part of a series of fast-paced action fighting video games. It takes characters from the best of the Capcom and Marvel universe, puts them in a winner takes all battle. The action is intense and even after all these years, the game has aged very well. The "vs" games (as they're called) are rare, hard-to-find, faithful translations of some of the best arcade fighting games ever made. For those reasons alone, I have made a very satisfying purchase, and I can't think of anything negative about it.

Good classic for fighting games

Created: 12/18/08
If you like classic fighting games, this is as good as they get. A lot of street fighter fans migrated to marvel vs capcom after the SF series got stagnant. Fun character selection and brisk controls make for a fun game.

MvC - ol' school fun

Review For: Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes (Sega Dreamcast, 1999)
Great game - classic 2D fighter with beautiful graphics, amazing combos and real challenge. Fans of guilty gear, fatal fury and the like will enjoy the complexity of the fighting engine, and the over-the-top super-moves. Also good for collectors, and fans of marvel and capcom franchises - because it has some of the most epically classic characters pitted against each other in a battle of apocalyptic proportions.
