Based on the hit memoir by John Grogan, MARLEY AND ME chronicles the relationship of John (Owen Wilson) and Jen (Jennifer Aniston) as they face the challenges of marriage and work to start a family. By their side is their beloved dog, Marley, who can chew through drywall, got kicked out of obedience school, and never met a leg he didn't like. The cute pup's antics come to signify the unexpected challenges that everyone faces in adulthood, and the film is ultimately a paean to unconditional love; others may see Marley as the "world's worst dog," but throughout it all, he proves to be the couple's most faithful friend. MARLEY AND ME plays like a modern day Norman Rockwell portrait with a little more bite, courtesy of the snark-friendly screenwriters and the title's wild mutt. The sets are sumptuous, with every shot lovingly lit to look like a Hallmark card. The winning lead performances help elevate the picture above its feel-good counterparts; Aniston is radiant and Wilson shows off sharp dramatic chops, giving some maturity to his loveable comedic persona. Alan Arkin gives a scene-stealing performance as Wilson's boss, and Kathleen Turner proves to be a great sport with her physically demanding cameo as Marley's obedience instructor. But in the end the picture belongs to the dogs, and for once that's a good thing. A film that keeps the audience cooing, cracking up, and crying, MARLEY AND ME is sure to become a family favorite.
Marley & Me is just adorable. Newspaper Columnist John Grogan was inspired in real life to write this story and it was soon to be a movie. Marley's antics and nature helps to shape the couples lives for the next 15 years, even giving John plenty of material to write in his column.
After the wedding, John and Jennifer move to Florida and begin to live their lives. John isn't ready to have children yet so thinks that Jennifer will be occupied by other thoughts, so he decides to get her a cute puppy hoping it will cheer her up and take her mind off of her on biological clock.
Not unlike the film Turner & Hooch (Tom Hanks), this movie pulls hard at your heart strings. If you know what it means to have pets, then maybe you can relate. Even this couple, Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston go to the dogs with Marley (the 100 pound blonde Labrador retriever as their only child in tow. The couple embarks on an adventure of marriage, career, family, and the world's worst dog.
Even though the ending is very sad, it seems to tie us all together and eventually bring new happiness and new memories we all can enjoy.

First, if you love Jennifer Anniston & Owen Wilson, you'll love them in this movie. Secondly, this is a comical and yet tender movie any dog owner will identify with. The movie spans 13 years of Marley's life w/the Grogan family. We watch John & Jennifer Grogan start their life together from their wedding day through work changes, family problems and children. Through it all Marley is there, never in the background but being a companion to John as well as Jen and the kids. He's quite the handful and that never changes. He flunks out of obedience school w/a style only Marley can have, wipes the smile from his young dog sitter's face and handles getting neutered in Marley fashion. This is a great movie for everyone in the family from toddler to grandparents. It's one you'll want to watch again and again.
This movie is funny and heartwarming, yet it has a sad ending. The film chronicles Marley-the yellow Lab from puppyhood into old age and death. In between we follow the life and careers of Marley's owners, the Grogans.Marley is a wrecking ball on 4 legs-and destroys and chews everything in his path. But John and Jenny love him, despite his wild ways. The years pass and 3 children later,Marley is still a vital part of the family.Getting on in years,we see his decline in mobility and finally he is put to sleep in a heart wrenching scene. It is very real to all of us dog owners-we have all been in that place.I wouldn't recommend this for young children, but dog people will like it.The ending is sad,but it's part of dog ownership-doing the right thing and not letting your friend suffer, when he is old and sick.
THIS WONDERFUL MOVIE IS A LOVE STORY NOT ONLY OF A COUPLE OVER MANY YEARS THAT A LOVE STORY ABOUT A DOG. JENNIFER ANISTON AND OWEN WILSON PERFECTLY CAST FOR THEIR ROLES. MARLEY KEEPS YOU LAUGHING THROUGHOUT AND BRINGS ON THE TEARS IN THE END. WONDERFUL FILM FOR NOT ONLY COUPLES BUT THE WHOLE FAMILY. AAA++++!
