|Mario Bros. is a non-scrolling, side-view platform game in which Italian plumber Mario and his brother Luigi are hard at work doing some underground plumbing. Suddenly, turtles, crabs, and Fighterflies begin coming out of the pipes, and it is up to the brothers to kick, punch, and knock these sewer pests into oblivion before the timer runs out. After you defeat all the creatures, you move on to the next level. Every so often, you play a creature-free bonus round in which you are given a short period of time to collect coins. |
The playfield is comprised of seven platforms and a brick floor. To stun a creature, you must get directly under it and jump, effectively punching the platform it is walking on. While the creature lies motionless, you need to hop up to where it is and knock it off the screen before it has time to recover. If it does get back on its feet, it will become faster and therefore harder to stun. You can stun or revive all the onscreen creatures simultaneously by hopping under a "POW" button that appears near the lower portion of the screen. However, if you use this too many times, it will disappear.
When playing alone, you assume the role of Mario. When playing cooperatively or competitively against a friend, player one controls Mario, while player two controls Luigi. You can assist your gaming partner by stunning creatures for him or her to knock off the screen, or sabotage your fellow gamer with trickery by reviving a creature just as your opponent is getting ready to kick it off the screen. You can also try to bump the other player into creatures or fireballs. In later levels, both players must be wary of Freezies, which spread out and harden, making the platforms very slippery.

This product is the original Mario Bros. game that preceded that Super Mario Bros. games. It is a classic game that made its debut in arcades way back in 1983, a followup to the highly successful Donkey Kong series. The screens are generally the same for each level, yet become progressively more and more difficult as enemies move faster and become more plentiful, surfaces change (i.e. become slippery), and additional perils threaten the protagonist, Mario. This game can be played with two players, with another player assuming the role of Luigi, Mario's brother, and two players can work in tandem--one to knock an enemy senseless, and the other to dispatch him. A great deal of fun to play, challenging and entertaining, guaranteed to provide hours of frenzied gameplay. One of the most influential games of the arcade world and a brilliant classic.
Wow this is a neat game it is so so so neat it's neat boy is it neat. Much beer we have spilled much controllers athrown over this arcade classic here's why; because it's them versus us in what I would call a true "survival horror pioneer game". You know that for a fact you are not getting out alive. It's just a matter of when.. when.. when will the turtles get you.. Get you and destroy you... When you go to the left side of the screen you come out the right when you go to the right side of the screen you come out the left when you jump it makes a great sound and there are coins to get. This game makes the xbox and playstation a joke, and it's a bad joke. The sort of joke that nobody laughs at. The sort of joke that makes you a worse person for hearing it. This game is not for today's kids, today's kids are far to super dumb to play this game. They would be better off playing today's games that suck. Keep it away from them. The original arcade classic!! Before Mario and Luigi made their names saving the Mushroom Kingdom, they were simply plumbers in the sewers of New York. Avoid baddies and obstacles to get the high score. Worth noting is the very entertaining multiplayer mode, in which two friends can work together to conquer the sewers, or actively attempt to take each other out as they vie for the high score!
This is a great NES game that everyone should have. Not to be mistaken for any of the Super Mario Bross saga, this is a great arcade classic conversion for NES that features Mario (and Luigi) clearing screen levels from creatures that spawn from a pipe. A must have title for people old enough to remember the arcade.
