Greer Garson and Walter Pidgeon are the Curies who spend years in the STUGGLE to seperate radium from Pitchblend~ VERY GOOD~
GREER GARSON is a polish student and a "woman" who is outstading in Physics captures the interest of Dr. Pierre Curie also a physics professor.AND THEY MARRY~ Soon Marie notices the pitchblend has more radioactive nature than uranium so the Curies begin the long and drawn out process of seperating the radium from the pitchbend ~ very detailed~ shows the ardous task and hardships the couple did to get the final results~ MADAME CURIE AND DR. CURIE WON THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE IN PHYSICS~ AND SHE WAS THE FIRST WOMAN TO WIN~ MARIE AFTER PIERRES DEATH WON A SECOND WON IN CHEMISTRY~ Greer Garson is a bit hammy at times but she is fun to watch her show the disbelieving men~ who finally believe she brilliant and a woman~! LOL
Walter Pidgeon is great as Pierre the man who worked side by side with his wife ~ who changed many theories of radioactivity~ I GIVE IT A 9 OUT OF 10 FOR HISTORIC FACTED ADDED WITH A SOAPY FLARE~ GARSON AND PIDGEON SHARED SEVERAL MOVIES INCLUDING MRS. MINERVA~ HER OSCAR WINNING ROLE.

I bought this movie for two reasons...one, to replace my vhs of this movie and two because Greer Garson is my ultimate favorite actress of all time. I love this movie and the history behind it. Anyone that likes classic movies with history written into the storyline should watch this one.
For those of you who are rad heads who like to study radiation detection and Uranium Ores - you will love this movie. If you have never seen it, you will enjoy it. If you have seen it, you will catch details you missed the first time. I have seen the movie many times and the science is detailed and very interesting. Learn about Radium with a half life of 1620 years. The Radium is the main isotope in Uranium ores that is responsible for the radiance of such ore samples. Radium on watch hands and clock faces from the early 1900's is a ready source for your own measurements. Learn about radiation and be ready in case Iran goes nuts and Israel is forced into a nuclear exchange with fanatics. Pray for cooler heads and Iran to wake up and become a peaceful nation. Pray for the overthrow of the Mullahs in Iran and the repeal of Sharia Law. Most Iranians want peace, lets hope they find a way to be peaceful.
This is in the true form of Mrs. Miniver. Very well done. One that I wanted to add to my collection of old movies ( I am 34) that had some kind of effect on me that made me never forget it! I recommend this movie if you have seen Mrs. Miniver! Will be one of your favorites too.
Very good acting by both actor and actress. The science part was easy to understand and very interesting.
