Movie synopsis
The friendship between a New York City lion and zebra is tested when fate brings them out to the unforgiving wilderness in this computer-animated DreamWorks feature. Chris Rock does the voice of Marty the Zebra, whose longing to explore beyond his cushy Central Park Zoo boundaries is the impetus that ultimately strands him and his pals on the shores of savage Madagascar. Marty loves the new, edible scenery, but his best friend Alex (voiced by Ben Stiller) the Lion begins to starve since his diet of thick steaks has been cut off, and the rump of his friend starts to look mighty tasty. Their other friends, a hypochondriac giraffe (David Schwimmer) and a sassy hippo (Jada Pinkett Smith), try their best to think of a solution as the call of the wild slowly turns the starving Alex into Marty's worst nightmare. Meanwhile the hilariously self-aggrandizing King of the Ocelots (Sacha Cohen) has a plan to use Marty to repel their own carnivore problem. This kid-oriented comedy stays adult-friendly every step of the way thanks to a clever script that mixes New Yorker humor and even some existentialism in with the pratfalls and spit-takes. Jolts of comedic brilliance are supplied by some Arctic-bound escaped con penguins, and a couple of literary apes. It's not a musical, but classic songs from the likes of Louis Armstrong and Sammy Davis Jr. keep the montages flowing loose and sassy.

Entertaining For the Kids & Adults! A FUN Film For All!

Review For: Madagascar (DVD, 2005, Full Frame)

Who Doesn't like a wild and wacky ADVENTURE!! The PENGUINS steal the show. In the sprightly Madagascar, a mid-life crisis inspires Marty the Zebra (voiced by Chris Rock) to escape from his lifelong home, a New York zoo. His equally pampered friends--Alex the Lion (Ben Stiller), Gloria the Hippo (Jada Pinkett Smith), and Melman the Giraffe (David Schwimmer)--then escape to bring him back. Unfortunately, their attempt at damage control persuades zoo officials that the animals are unhappy, so all four get shipped to an animal preserve in Kenya...only a squad of maniacal penguins change the destination to Antarctica. The quartet end up on an island where, in addition to meeting some hedonistic lemurs, they learn about the food chain--and that Alex is a different link on the chain from the other three. Madagascar doesn't achieve the snappy perfection of a Pixar movie, but it tops most other computer-animated efforts; the collision of friendship and predator instincts makes for an unusually gripping conflict. The vocal performances of the central characters is serviceable, but Sacha Baron Cohen (Da Ali G Show) provides topnotch lunacy as the lemur king, and the penguins--voiced mostly by the animators themselves--are the best thing in the movie!!

Gotta Love The Penguins!

Review For: Madagascar (DVD, 2005, Full Frame)

Madagascar is one of the recent crop of animated movies that appeals to adults as well as kids. Admittedly, this is no "Incredibles," but it is still worth renting and watching with the family or friends who enjoy being a "kid" for an hour or two.

Although Ben Stiller (Alex the Lion) and Chris Rock (Marty the Zebra) offer up the lion's share (pun intended) of the dialog, the Penguins win my vote for best delivery. The lead penguin's (Skipper) voice is actually done by Tom McGrath, who co-directed the movie with Eric Darnell. The penguin's "Mission Impossible" meets "Get Smart" antics are sure to make you laugh.

Speaking of laughter, no review of this movie would be complete without an enthusiastic nod to the single funniest character of the movie, King Julien XIII, the Lemur King. King Julien is given voice by Sacha Baron Cohen and his delivery of lines like "All hail the Ney York Giants" and "...I have a new hat, like my hat?" made me laugh hard enough to regret drinking the majority of an extra large coke during the first half of the movie!

This movie has earned the right to become a part of my permanent DVD collection. I wish there was a "Very Good" rating available, because I would use it for this movie if I could!

a great family movie, your kids will love it & so did I

Review For: Madagascar (DVD, 2005, Full Frame)

This is a great movie (animated film) that is great for both adults and children with an all star cast with the voices of Chris Rock as malcontented Mart the Zebra, and David Schwimmer, Ben Stiller and Jada Pinkett Smith as the other characters.

The movie starts out with the Animals all living in New York City Central Park Zoo and from there they journey to the wild, but only one of them wanted to leave their indulged existence at the zoo. Your kids will love it, mine did and I can say they saw it more than once!

The Penguins steal the show with their antics and the DVD has bonus features and the Penguins Christmas Caper Cartoon. Truly a delight!

Not just for Kids

Review For: Madagascar (DVD, 2005, Full Frame)

Most adults don't watch cartoons well heres one they need to see.
From the Studio that brought you Shrek and Shark tale comes Madagascar.
This is a fun movie for the hole family. The movie starts out with the Animals all living in the Central Park Zoo in New york and follows there journey to freedom. (Not all of them wanted to leave there Pampered home at the Zoo)
The Six of us all liked this movie very much. From 38 to 5 years old we all enjoyed it. Voices of David Schwimmer,Chris Rock,Ben Stiller and Jada Pinket Smith.
Watch out for the Lemur King (King Julien) he try's to steal the Show.
The kids will want to watch it over an over again!!!!
The DVD also comes with tons of bonus features and a new Penguins Christmas Caper Cartoon.

Enjoy!!!!
