    Movie synopsis

Boris Karloff and Phyllis Diller lend their vocal talents to this glorious stop-motion animated parody of horror films. As Dr. Frankenstein makes plans for his retirement, he calls for a council meeting of all monsters dark and ghoulish to announce his replacement. As the word spreads that the doctor is going to choose his young nephew-protégé for the position, the visiting creatures begin to plot a nasty coup d'état that would leave the sadistic Dr. Frankenstein retired "on ice." MAD MONSTER PARTY is the first of a run of animated hits (FROSTY THE SNOWMAN, LITTLE DRUMMER BOY, THE HOBBIT) by dreamweavers Jules Bass and Arthur Rankin. The film's jokes are of the utmost wit and reference movies ranging from DRACULA to THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON. Furthermore, watching MAD MONSTER PARTY reveals its influence on later 20th-century filmmakers; it was an obvious blueprint for Henry Selick's collaborations with Tim Burton--the two animated opuses JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH and THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS.

Review For: Mad Monster Party (DVD, 2005, Foil O-Card Packaging)
When I first heard that this title was going to DVD I was very excited. I remember this movie from my childhood, but unlike the other ventures from
the creatord RANKIN-BASS(rudolf the red nosed reindeer, santa claus is coming to
town)MAD MONSTER PARTY was not shown at all over the years, leading to its
    popularity.
It is a eather adult venture for the company, but keeps it's silliness that
child and adult will be entertained with. The songs aren't as memorable or for that fact as singable as the christmas films but still funny, The voices of
ms. Diller and the brilliant boris karloff cap off a great supporting cast.

the extra bonus special features are a plus and a nice visit.

    Well done guys

    Rankin/Bass rules!

Being a fan of the Rankin/Bass Christmas classics (like Rudolph, the Year Without a Santa Claus, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, etc.) was delighted to find this feature length (95 min) Halloween special! With the voice talents of Boris Karloff, Phyllis Diller, and Gale Garnett, and a cast of Halloween heavyweights like the Werewolf, Dracula, Dr. Jeckyll & Mr. Hyde, the Mummy, and many more, this film doesn't disappoint! Great musical numbers throughout with the opening theme sung by Ethyl Ennis! If you're a fan of Halloween in general or Rankin/Bass in particular find yourself a copy of this right away!

    Mad Monster Party (2005, DVD)

Review For: Mad Monster Party (DVD, 2005, Foil O-Card Packaging)
I bought this DVD because I am a child of the 60's. And growing up this movie
was a regular every time around Halloween.

The special effects were great for back then, and the characters were stop motion. The voices Boris Karloff and Phyliss Diller are great. This is a Jules Bass classic. There is a bonus booklet with the DVD that give in an insight into what makes this a movie classic.

I couldn't remember what the title of the movie was until I researched on the internet. And once I knew it, I figured I would take a shot and see if I could find it on eBay. Sure enough, here it was!

    Mad Monster Party-DVD 2005

Review For: Mad Monster Party (DVD, 2005, Foil O-Card Packaging)
This movie is produced by the same individuals that released "Frosty the Snowman" and "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer." The animation is the same excellent quality as in those two movies and far beyond its time. This movie was originally released in 1967, before children programming was so closely monitored. It has some dark undertones and situations, but nothing like children see on TV today. As a teacher, I could not show this movie in class (there is a murder attempt plot, etc.). My 5 year old son loves monsters but is sometimes still scared of them and he absolutely adores it. The characters are whimsical, cute (as far as monsters go) and likeable, but in a different sort of way than Frosty and Rudolph. This movie is recommended as more of a nostalgic, reminiscent, adult, Halloween movie. Still rated EXCELLENT as far as older movies go.

    Mad Monster Party

If you are a Rankin Bass fan and a Nightmare Before Christmas fan, this is one of the all time best treats for you! Being a fan, I was thrilled to find this on DVD, as I only remember it from the TV broadcasts that stopped years ago. It was just as great as I remember. That wonderful stop motion animation along with some of the most famous voices and monsters in entertainment history. The musical numbers were great. This was one of the best they ever produced.
