Unique feature: DAC
Created: 03/10/09
The M-Audio Fast Track Pro is a home/mobile recording interface that is designed for musicians or anyone who has a need to record themself, but since I do not play music or make podcasts, I acquired it in order to take advantage of one of its other unique features: as an inexpensive digital-analog converter (DAC). If you've owned a CD player or have an iPod dock, you already have some familiarity with DACs; they basically transfer the digitized music on a CD into a form that can be amplified and played through standard speakers.
Similarly, the Fast Track Pro enabled me to play the music in my iTunes through my home stereo system. It has a USB input that allows it to be used as an outboard DAC, so I connected it to my computer and "Voila!", no more tinny sounding music on tiny computer speakers. It was really simple to do: I just ran a standard USB cable from the Fast Track Pro (it comes with a 6ft long cable) into my computer and then ran standard RCA cables from one set of the Fast Track Pro's outputs (it has two sets) into my receiver's "Tape" input. It took about 5 minutes to set whole thing up.
As I mentioned at the onset of this review, perhaps the best thing is that the Fast Track Pro provided an economical solution to my needs. Even the cheapest outboard DACs go for over $200, and for that price you don't usually get the kind of mid-fi sound the Fast Track Pro provides. You'd have to pay nearly $1000 for something that beats it. Since the Fast Track Pro is designed for musicians to record themselves, the sound quality has to be a step up. I'm pretty happy to have found this unique, inexpensive solution and put it to use.

I bought the M-Audio FastTrack Pro USB Audio/MIDI Interface four weeks ago and was immediately impressed with the number of features available on this audio device !!! It has Line/Instruments inputs, monitor output, S/PDIF interface, MIDI interface, TRS and RCA outputs. Great choice for home or mobile recording studio !

This is a good USB Audio Interfase
Created: 10/13/10
After having an USB Audio interfase with only one pair of sound outputs, I realized it was not enough for my computer DJ setup.
I decided to get this M-Audio Fast Track Pro since M-Audio products are good quality and price.
This is USB self-powered and have 2 XLR / Line inputs and 4 RCA outputs pls headphones and TSR outputs.
this is a good choice!

Great for Rap/Hip Hop/Podcasts/Other Uses!
Created: 01/06/10
I have owned a Fast Track with the one XLR input for a while. I also own a Presonus Firestudio (26 I/O), and I find this Fast Track Pro to be a great tool for field recordings and many other uses. I needed a USB interface with phantom power, so I chose this unit. I got a great deal on it, considering the features. I can run my record player into it stereo, which will help in a future punk/hardcore/weird podcast I intend to start. In addition, I'm going to get a new midi controller (Axiom 61) soon and I'll start producing hip hop and synthy/atmospheric music. As far as the Fast Track goes, the pre's can be a bit sterile, but they can be warmed up through VST plug-ins. I love the pad that comes built in on each channel. It's compact enough to pack up for a weekend concert trip and interview bands (because you don't need to worry about a power supply for this thing), or I could sit around and make funny rap songs all day with a decent quality. For 100 bucks used, this thing is where it's at!
