Movie synopsis
Five years after the last episode of I LOVE LUCY, Lucille Ball returned to television with THE LUCY SHOW in 1962. THE LUCY SHOW featured the redhead comedienne as a recently widowed working mom, in some ways mirroring her real-life situation after her divorce from Desi Arnaz. While never as overwhelmingly popular as her earlier show, THE LUCY SHOW was still a success, garnering top-ten Nielsen ratings for most of its six-season run. Unlike many programs, production of the show was shut down voluntarily by Ball after she was forced to sell Desilu studios and no longer wanted to be involved with something she did not have total control over. THE LUCY SHOW boasted numerous guest appearances by stars friendly with Ball and her ex-husband, including fellow television comedians Milton Berle, George Burns, and heir-apparent Carol Burnett. This collection presents the show's complete first season.

Excellent Seller, Super Fast Shipping, Great Price!!!

I purchased The Lucy Show Official First Season and I am glad I did! I had never seen all of the First Season episodes before, but I can say that they are funny as ever! The quality of the episodes are Digitally Remastered and Super Excellent to my viewing! I love how CBS/Paramount presented this season. The DVD artwork looks fantastic and the discs comes in a very slimcase. Everything was presented well. Plus, the bouns material on this set are great too. I am so glad I purchased this set and can't for the release of the second season which is in color! I hope we don't have to wait long!

Life After Lucy

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

Life after I Love Lucy, that is.
These are the shows I grew up watching, not seeing I Love Lucy until I was well into my teens, it was The Lucy Show and Here's Lucy that saw me captured by the screwy redhead, and these were the episodes.

Yes as she gets older the stunts get fewer and farther between. A first season episode here involves Lucy being tricked into wearing an astronaut outfit. Oh, that Lucy. Yes, the stunt falls short from I Love Lucy antics.

I do recall her getting her dress caught in the elevator and the unraveling is something to behold (especially when she grabs hold of that clothes rack nearby. Didn't recall that).

And when she is with John McGiver and puts her foot in the waste basket with water in it. These show this woman's timing and delivery that was often managed and handled well, but then we have those that fall short.

Having kids come back at her creates a generation gap, something Lucy never seemed to contend with on I Love Lucy. She wasn't a young vivacious woman on ILL, but singing By The Light Of The Silvery Moon definitely dates her (still, she offers up an opinion of Elvis and gives an intriguing comparison to Wee Bonnie Baker. Further, we get the kids smiling as they talk about Ahab the Arab and Papa Oh Mau Mau, so she was at least showing awareness of younger kids' music)

Everytime I feel like I am watching a watered down ILL episode, suddenly there will be a kick-up, such as putting her foot in the waste basket full of water, Viv telling Lucy if the wind blows down the tv antennae again, "don't let anyone else help you put it back up but me."

I remember reading somewhere that when this show aired, about two women living together with their kids, it was (I think rather crudely and unfairly) called The Dyke Sans Dick Show. I guess it was a different perspective to take with two women living together like this, one divorced and the other a widow.

A good bit is the commercial bumpers at the beginning and the end, with the cast and characters selling pudding, dishwashing liquid and the like.

Havent watched all the episodes, but already several recognizeable faces like McGiver and Reta Shaw have appeared, and Charles Lane is present as the needle-nosed banker, this being before Mr. Mooney arrived on the scene.

Also worth mentioning is Dick Martin's next-door neighbor man, Harry, a pilot Lucy will sometimes date. Who remembers him? I certainly didn't.

A fun stroll down memory lane, definitely. Havent seen some of these shows in near 40 years.

If you liked the Lucy Show, you'll love these.

The Lucy show - The Official first Season (DVD, 2009)

Excellent dvd's in both quality and content. As a life-long Lucille Ball fan, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to enjoy these shows again and for my children to see them for the first time. We have already watched some repeatedly, and everyone has their favorite.
