Too much money for this unit which the maps on it are totally lacking in detail.
You have to buy mapping software to improve the detail at $150. With the name of
baja for this unit you would think it would come with topo maps but not so. The operation of this gps is simple enough but without proper mapping I am drawing lines on a blank green screen. It is compact enough for my side by side quad to
see the screen ok. The other features available I am not interested in.
I have a Garmin 7200 with a 7" screen that works very well for a lot less money.
I purchased the HDS 5 for the front of my boat and it is working great and I am very satisfied but in order to get the full effect you have to buy the navionics card plus the structure scan. I have a hds 7 at the the console of my boat and I would suggest spending a little extra and purchasing the HDS 7 or 8 especially if it is going to be your main reciever. Any of the HDS models are really worth the extra money because they make a tremendous difference in how and where you fish.
It is exactly as advertised, in good condition and is working great in my boat. The GPS is what I needed the most, and it is perfect. The Sonar is an added benefit. I would recommend the HDS5 to my friends and family.
This unit has been wonderful in helping me spot fish and structure on my lake! To be able to see everything in HD has brought a new dimension to fishing. I have since gone to the larger HDS 8 model just because I had such a good experience with this unit. Add Lowrance's Structure Scan and I'm finding more and better spots than I ever knew about. It's amazing!
The unit is useless without maps. I called Lowrance and got nothing. They said they were working on the problem. I am very sorry I bought it.
