The Lowrance Elite-5 DSI fishfinder is a major technological advance over the traditional 2-D sonar units. It is EXTREMELY easy to set up and use and most of the adjustments are very intuitive and don't require any real training to make. The display is one of the best I have ever seen and is WAY better than any other units that cost under $1,500. Beautiful color pallettes with crystal clear pictures. What I like most though, is that there is no more "interpreting" what you are seeing on the display. A tree looks like a tree (and you can see each individual branch), a bush looks like a bush, etc. Structure is VERY easy to identify and it is also very easy to spot fish hanging around any particular piece of submerged structure. And the GPS plotter is very accurate and allows the user to easily plot thousands of waypoints and other hot spots, and to return to them at any future time without having to hunt around for them!
It's not often I can say this about ANY product, but I have NO, ZERO, NADA complaints about this unit!! I've tried comparable units from Hummingbird and Garmin and they aren't even close to the capability and ease of use of this unit! Are there better units out there? Sure. But you'll pay in excess of $1,500 for one, plus another $600 minimum if you want to add side scan capability. Why bother, when you can have this unit for under $600 (under $500 after the Lowrance rebate!)and it will do 98% of what the super top-end units will do. That leaves a lot of $$$ left over to spend on rods, reels, lures, bait, boat accessories, fuel, etc.
I liked scanning technology bottom. The presence in the device gps, color screen and a good price! Drawback of this model - there is no record log of depth, but thanks to the Russian craftsmen, you can do it!
At the moment there is no possibility to use it as in Russia winter!
this elite 5 dsi is the best you can buy for the money.a dummy can use. its very user friendly and simple.you see what you see and no what your looking at, weather trees rocks fish boats or anything man made under water.BEST 500.00 i ever spent.compares to any receiver under 500.00. thanks lowrance
Elite 5 DSI is no better than satisfactory for $615.00 price. The microSD cardslot is inconvenient requiring purchase of a micro card map file, the owners manual is less than adequate, illegible and incomplete and a number menu items such as shallow fihsing mode decsribed in the manual are unavailable using standard selection techniques. There is no exit button.
Ok, but I would like more detailed image of fish, since this the big reason for buying the Lowrance. Overall, I am satisfied with the depth finder.
