1961 4 Oscars, 8 Major Actors Recreate WWII Normandy

Review For: The Longest Day (Blu-ray Disc, 2009, 2-Disc Set)

This is a 2008, Blu-ray disc of the 1961, 8 major actor, 4 Oscar winning re-creation of the WWII Allies' invasion at Normandy Beach. Richard Burton, Sean Connery, Henry Fonda, Robert Mitchum, Robert Wagner, John Wayne, Paul Anka & Red Buttons create a stellar epic as Allied soldiers.

Obviously, since the acting is not the most spectacular part of this film, the 4 1962 Oscars went to Best Cinematography by Jean Bourgoin; Best Cinematography by Walter Wottitz; Best Sound Effects; & Best Special Effects.

Darryl F. Zanuck produced what has become known as one of the finest re-creations of a WWII battle, if not classic.

Owning it on DVD & Blue-ray seems nearly essential since this film is known to be a great achievement in visual & sound effects. It's impossible to view it on television through cable or satellite & get the high quality of these very special effects.

It's truly amazing that all of these actors worked together in 1 historic & classic film that was so significant to their generation~

Juno Beach and more...

"The Longest Day" is fairly massive production and very sweeping in its' tale. It's the true story of the events surrounding the 6 June 1944 Allied invasion of Normandy, France. If you pay close attention, you'll be amazed how many stars and future-stars are in this film as leads, seconds, and extras. Definately belongs in the DVD film library of all historians and militaria collectors. This version is in the North American DVD Format and was issued in 1999. Not recommended for children due to the graphic nature of warfare. My reviews are provided with no knowledge of the potential seller.

"The Longest Day"

"The Longest Day" has a star-studded cast, and is produced in a classic "noir" form (black and white)
Color would not have improved it. It is a stand-alone classic that deserves to be in any film collector's
library. I recently toured many of the invasion beaches and battlegrounds of World War II. Watching
the film took me back there.
