I purchased the Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 Web Cam several weeks ago.
I was not suprised by the quality of the camera since I've seen high rating from the numerous sites I checked for reviews before purchasing.
I was surprised by the price. You can't beat it!
Picture, both capture & video are excellent. So is the sound quality; both receiving & sending.
I use this on a Windows XP desktop along with Skype. Installation was quite easy, but don't forget to do the available updates from the web. I've recently noticed that Windows Update now includes an update to the software for this camera if you do a custom, not express, update.
This webcam installed smoothly with no problems, and there are no software conflicts with my Windows Vista system. The camera takes good quality shots of multiple optional quality ranges, from e-mail sizes to a full 8-megapixel photo. The video works smoothly and does a good job in taking footage without any interference, and the lag is minimal. Logitech supports a large database of add-on accessories within its main website, which provide a little fun as well at no extra cost. The autofocus lens system is flawless, and it is quick to adjust to any change in subject distance. The focus can also be adjusted manually if prefered by the buyer. The Right-Light image enhancing system is effective and works very efficiently on automatic controls, allowing photos and video to be taken in a low-light or dim environment while maintaining photo/video image integrity. The stand is perfect for use on either a laptop or desktop, or because of the perfect balance created by a counter-weighted stand, this webcam may even be used as a standalone fixture on a tabletop. My overall review?: This webcam is well worth every penny.
I have bought several Logitech QUICKCAM PRO 9000 WEB CAMs for both myself and friends. It may be the best performer for the price available. For the most part, I will not look at any other brands anymore due to lack of consistency. The set up process is simple here, and Logitech communicates in a human way, "go get a cup of coffee and take 5 while this loads". The quality of images is exceptional generally. Downsides: Still not ideal way to mount cam, it can and does slip.
also sometimes settings must be reloaded to function properly, it can be done, but there is a glitch somewhere. Overall, it has so many features for the price, and it is fun to use.
Make sure you know which 9000 Logitech you are buying! I found a web site that goes through each camera by model. (http://cowboyfrank.net/webcams/index.htm#logitech)and might be helpful. There is a QuickCam and a Pro 9000.
Not sure about the bang for the buck. This is a good camera but does not perform as well as its ads suggest. The low light compensation is not worth the hassle. The mike is average. However, if you have normal conditions and average expectations, you will not be disappointed in the quality. The optics are very good but I am not ready to concede that it is on a par with Nikon, another customer of Carl Zeiss. Newer models should drive the price of this down and it could be a very good buy at a lower cost.
This webcam is much better than the 'cheap' one I bought on e-bay several years ago. It's higher resolution and more sensitive to light.
If there was a downside to using it, the built-in microphone was taking over from my regular microphone which is of much higher quality. After doing a Google search to find help, I managed to make a change on my computer's control panel to 'defeat' the built in microphone. I wasn't the only one who was dismayed when 'it' took over.
I've had good comments on the quality of the picture since changing to the Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 from those with whom I've done webcam chats on Skype.
