This is another strong set of music by the Thelonious Monk quartet, recorded just after Charlie Rouse joined the band, which makes it historically important. Rouse sounds nervous in a couple of places and occasionally tries too hard (Who wouldn't, having to take the place of Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane, and Johnny Griffin ?) Unfortunately, the sound quality is poor and the nightlub patrons' donversations are distracting. The Monk family released this on their own label a few years ago and then took it off the market. The current release I received is probably unauthorized. Recommended only for Monk fanatics, like me.
