Daughter is 2 years old and going through her Disney "PRINCESS" stage! We have seen the original "Little Mermaid" several hundred times and purchased the "LITTLE MERMAID 2" to return some of Mommies sanity!!! It WORKED!!
This movie has the same characters you loved from the first movie; Ariel, Aric, King Triton, Sebastian and adds a few new ones for your little one to love! The story focuses around MELODY, Ariel and Aric's daughter and her adventure in the ocean. She has legs and decides she would like to be a mermaid!!! She runs in to a relative of Ursula and needs to be saved by Ariel!!
This movie is an EXCELLENT replacement when you get tired of watching the original LITTLE MERMAID!!
LOVE IT!!!!
Little Mermaid II is a great sequel to a wonderful movie. The animation is beautiful, the songs and the score are very well done, and the characters are fresh and original.
Ariel and Eric are "different" in this movie. Think about the time frame. They are both in their early 30s and parents of a twelve-year-old. Did you expect them to be the same flippant teenagers they were in the first movie?
The movie is great. If you are a fan of Disney or just good animated films, check out Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea. I have many Disney films on DVD and this is definitely one of my favorites.
In "The Little Mermaid", Ariel is a mermaid wanting to become human, who does with the "help" of a sea witch. Just reverse the story for "The Little Mermaid 2": Ariel's daughter Melody becomes a mermaid via a sea witch. While it is interesting to see what has happened to Ariel and others after the end of the first movie, I don't see what this movie really adds to "The Little Mermaid" world other than we see she has a daughter. There are a few more "grown up" moments that kids might not get that are really touching, such as Ariel's longing for the water and joy when she becomes a mermaid again for a short time, and when Ariel mistakes Flounder's child for him, showing how fast time can go when we lose touch with friends. The songs were enjoyable and the animation was good for a direct to video, but this is pretty much standard sequel fare.
We bought The Little Mermaid 3: A New Beginning. We had never seen it. Didn't realize Ariel's mom got crushed by a pirate ship in the beginning of the movie. My daughter, 3, cried her eyes out for the rest of the movie. We have to skip that part now. This movie takes place after Ariel and Prince Eric get married. Ariel has a 12 year old daughter named Melody. Ursula's sister, Morgana, is trying to capture Melody to get revenge on Ariel and her father, King Trident. Cute movie. A little slow in parts but not bad. My daughter liked this one much better.
My children actually seem to prefer Little Mermaid II over the original. Flounder's voice is noticeably different, but he is an adult now, so it is easily explained. Ariel's daughter Melody is lovely and Organa, Ursula's sister makes a charming villian. The new characters introduced in this movie are funny and the scary parts in this movie don't seem as scary as the original. There are a lot of similarities though. In the original Ursula grew very fat and large. In this one, Organa seems to get taller instead of fatter.
This is a great Disney sequel and worth purchasing. Just watch out for pirated copies!
